  • First CRASH! OUCH (Beam)

    Hi Guys & Gals

    Well it had to happen.
24 Lipos after getting into the air I was expecting it being a newby.

Flying circuits for my first lipo, nice and smooth with a few stall turns.

2nd lipo, started with a couple of passed then started loops on mid pass.
no probs, then thought about trying to stay inverted at the top of the loop, fine to start with, started to correct wrong direction so I flipped it back and tried again. The next time got it totaly wrong, coordination went out the window and nose first from 40' OOPS.

The funny thing is I wasn't nervous about the damage at all.
The first thingh that went through my head was, ' well this will keep me busy'

    Damage so far,

    Canopy - will repair
    1 Canopy grommet missing
    Feathering Shaft
    Main Shaft
    Flybar
1 Main blade holder marked but OK
    1 Way sleeve sheared through
    Tail Pulley
    Tail Boom
Both tail boom braces brocken at tail end - will shorten brace slightly
    1x body catch screw bent
    Main Blades

Apart from that looks great. I am amazed how strong the Beam is.

Cost £55.96 with new canopy and Radix blades.

Firstly keep that attitude my friend and you'll continue to do splendidly, secondly with that crash to flight ratio you've done extremely well indeed!

The main hurdle for any flyer is confidence in his or hers ability, and in a safe manor thinking, "OK I have this licked on the Sim, and it's just the same here in the real world," and just do it, as I say the confidence barrier is often the hardest to jump, when all along the ability is within the flyer, and has been for some while, however you seem able to do many maneuvers all ready, but there'll always be that one time in a blink of an eye when it all goes belly up.

Do keep us informed with your build progress, and anything you may find interesting after the refit has been completed.

                  Unlucky mate!
Just get back on and go again.

Its good how it takes a good kicking! "still no frames yet!"

End of the day, most would change the shafts, so it don't matter if it bends a little or loads.

Better the force be used to bend the shaft, than replace a frame set.

Some of the bits are in packs (more than one) so you get to have a few more goes, lol

There is far too much truth in that simple comment

If I were you I would take off the head button, all it does is makes the heli look nice and in a crash can damage the blade holder

Decked my Beam today.. a combination of a blustery wind, being to brave and your mind just ****ing of, when you need it the most... came down from about 20ft... hit throttle hold... damage was slight.. main shaft, feathering shaft, flybar, one tail rotor blade and rear tail fin.... bought enough spares from Rob at Charnmouth to have it repaired in 20 mins and went back out after tea.. for a test flight + another 4 batteries

Tis surely a strong little heli forsure... Removing the head button probally saved the grips from being damaged too
