  • Practice pays off…

Over the last week I’ve not been very mobile due the arthritis, so now the flare up has subdued I'm trying to play catch up......I flew all three helis on Sunday and had a great time with small circuits, piros and basically having fun..

Well, flew the Beam this evening after work and the first flight was really enjoyable with my figure 8s reasonably controlled and smooth(ish)

Second flight thought, come on let’s do it a little faster…..unfortunately the Beam is so fast I almost lost it big style…I mean I was fighting for survival if you can relate to it…

I find flying a circuit from left to right, I get it almost spot on every time, then from right to left, my brain doesn’t seem to react the same and I slightly panic. I’ve practiced and practiced this over and over and whilst I really did loose control tonight I some how managed to stable the flight out and gain control.

Now, I firmly believe its only practice that got me out of trouble tonight; it’s also made me feel more determined to crack it knowing I can recover…..safely…well until next time anyway!

If anyone has any tips about my orientation problem please let me know…

    Practice really does pay off…
    Cheers Eddie

Well done Eddie..I guess as you put it, it is practice and practice to make steps forward.

I myself still do most my practicing on the sim. In the early days when I was practicing inverted hovering on the sim, I ensured that I had it mastered before I attempted it on the field.. In that way I could generally get out of any awkward situations in an inverted state in real life

I think that just through the practice.. it will be just second nature.

your not wrong about practicing, got myself out of a tricky situation saturday. accidently flew the heli over my head and turned around and the sun blinded me but by instinct I managed to input the right controls to save it. thinking back I dont know how I did it, it was all so quick.

Nice one Eddie. Your so right about practicing. I've done a little bit of sim time the past few weeks and it does pay off. Should be on it now but I'm sat here talking to you lot!!!!

i have the same eddie with practicing moves.... get a little handed.

Phoenix practice has gotta help but the handed issue plays more at the field. Guess you have to force yourself to fly the direction your less comfortable with.

Mental discipline plays a part.. thats what i'm telling myself now anyway mate!!!

Good to hear you saved the BEAM Eddie.
I find that I am very right-handed and doing things in left handed circuits in any way a real effort.
Another DMHC member once told me to practise mastering all manouvers in both orientations straight away to try to avoid this.
                      Seems I didn't listen!

Well done Eddie!.. Thumbs up for the nerves of steel.. The Beam looks gorgeous and it would have been a shame..

I was also told to mirror everything in both directions (only with hovering and drifting to one side at the moment) but i also find it a bit tricky..

I can see that perfectly when i'm doing figures of 8 using the mCX.. left side of it is quite messy and i have to really concentrate and slow the maneuvers down to get it spot on..
