  • Tail Boom

Hi guys...not expecting many responses just yet as I guess most of you will be off out flying in this great weather we have right now...I'm itching to join you

I've got to the part of my build where I'm fitting the tail assembly and boom to the main chassis. Now, Mr Finless Bob (who usually seems to get things spot on) is saying that the end of the boom with the hole should go towards the tail assembly. But, my manual says that the slotted end should insert into the tail assembly. Any ideas which is correct?

NB: What on earth are the hole and slot for anyway....I can't see anything in the instructions that refers to them again, so maybe it doesn't matter which way around?

    Cheers
    David

I'd guess that the slotted end would be in the main frames so as to allow for tension adjustments on the belt. Have a look inside the boom clamp to see if there is something for the slot to locate on.

Thanks Andy. Just checked, but can't see anything that would locate into the slot. Looking at the tail end though, the bolt that is used to attach the tail pitch slider does protrude through the inner wall of the casing and the slotted boom end will locate into that. Not sure if that is what is supposed to happen though.

Yeah cheers Del. I would've followed the manual without a seconds thought, if it hadn't been for the Finless Bob video. He was quite clear about getting the boom the correct way around, with the hole going towards the tail. Maybe he got that bit wrong.

I looked at Finless's videos before I bought the Beam but assembled it using the manual, Bob has done a few things on various helis and videos that I wouldn't do myself.

Yes,I decided to follow the manual in the end and now have the boom and tail assembly attached. I'm nearly there now . But as it happens, I have another question.....sorry...

Just about to fit the tail servo but there's nothing on the manual or in Bob's videos about how to go about installing it correctly - I guess it's important to get the tail pitch slider centred when the servo arm is at 90 degrees...is there any specific technique to this, or is doing it by eye sufficient?

The 'eye' method is fine David
