the g5 is a 450, hav had it a while and love it, but a big crash with her and its ****ed!! like a hole new frame, its my only fault with her!!! part from the longer flight times, 7/8mins if your poodling along, maybe more, its just a bit delicate!!! but awesome, dont get me rong, not selling it, just not gonna use it as much, but i want a 450 size i can abuse!!

Oh... fully understand. I actually considered getting a G5 because of the longer flight times, but tbh, when I saw pictures of the frame layout, it put me off. I can imagine them going in a crash.
I can't see myself ever getting one, but think it is a nice looking heli though.ANdy - CDMFC

The Beam is a brilliant 450 sized heli.
Build quality is the best I've seen in the 450 sized machines plus it flies very accurately too.Slow Mo Blade 550x

Could buy a basic beam, then kit it with the 6s stuff..ok would be 325mm blades.. still get the flight times..
Could order it with a 1630 motor and get the same Esc you are using on the G5..
We have had the Beam E4 in the UK since the 3D masters, you can ask anyone how many frames I have sold people from crashes..
I still have the same amount in-stock from day one!
Prices will mostly stay as now!
We have had a few parts go up over the last few months, I think we still have a few to change but the crash stuff shouldn't need to be changed too much, if at all.
It was the 1st to be restocked so running on current exchange rates..
No heli crashes well, but the Beam seems to get away with it quite well..
Wonder what others think on the crashing side.. Don't listen to me I sell them

Its interesting you mention the repair costs Pete, whilst when I did a comparison the Beam won fairly well on most aspects, I didnt see a significantly huge difference between all of them... did you spank it in so hard that it was beyond economical repair?
I think the most stuff I have replaced is the usual main/feathering shafts and boom. Not had a frame go yet, but have had a bottom section go, but that was where the leg fits on, so a cable tie is sorting out that untill I spank it in properly

crashes are weird things, sometimes you can barely touch the ground and break everything. Other times you can pound it in the ground and barely touch anything!
the g5 frames are a little on the weedy side to save weight but i have only broken a couple of lower frames since masters last year and its been in the ground maybe 10 times.
with any heli, the surface to fly off makes a big difference. find one of those nice soggy fields and you will rarely break anything!

G5 uses some of the same parts (like main shaft and feathering spindle?) as the align does it not?
Can a normal undercart be fitted to the G5 to make crashes cheaper?www.heli-extreme.co.uk a good club in south Sheffield

So true.Originally posted by Ade_Law View Postwith any heli, the surface to fly off makes a big difference. find one of those nice soggy fields and you will rarely break anything!
I put the Raptor in inverted into what can only be described as a boggy mess (no offence Ron
) and only did £40 worth of damage
I'm sure if I put her onto hard grass the damage would have been significant.
The blades got away with it as well although I won't fly them just in case as there were some compression marks around the root.

My Beam has hit the ground a few times to date and repair costs are always reasonable. I've yet to damage the frames but the mainshaft & feathering shaft always bend, although this can actually save the blades. Booms are another obvious crash victim, the only annoying parts that break almost every time are the one-way sleeve and the main drive pulley, ironically the main gear has survived every crash!
All in all it's a very strong design with calculated weak point, the main shafts may be almost as soft as liquorice and most crashes see it bent at very jaunty angles but rather that than have the sideframes take the shock loading, same with the feathering shaft. It's pretty easy to strip down for repairs too, if you carry regular spares in your flightbox it's easy enough to repair at the field.Steve H

4 crashes in 1 month on mine:
blades x4
main shaft x2
spindle x1
oneway drive unit and tail pully. (saves replacing main gear) x2
landing struts x 1
bottom frame support(broke same time as strutss) but cheap to replace.
tail shaft x1.
overall.... very impressed with durability. and each crash was different angle. from full FF into ground, to nice vert piro into floor. ;-)

well ive crashed twice with my g5, once was a total right off, both frames, blades, main shaft feather shaft, boom, spacers for the frame, skids, bent the skid support, i just bought a new kit and kept the head and the tail off the old one, and i had the piro crash, snapped the blade clean off, yet the feathering shaft was perfect after, just a bent boom, but a decnt whack on the g5 does kill it!!! lol!!! but as i sald, its a wicked heli, and im not trying to put any off getting one, because they fly awesome!!! just want something that if i hav a decent crash it wont cost a arm and leg to fix!!! lol!!
