  • Scorp 45 ESC on rear tray?

Guys, I'm almost there assembling my E4. Can't wait to fly it!

I'm considering installing my Spektrum 6100E receiver in the front tray under the battery, and my Scorpion 45A ESC in the rear frame tray.

Has anyone tried this configuration? I'd appreciate some feedback on this installation and flight performance of the heli...

    My thoughts!

    Welcome to the Beam forum.

You will find that the Beam E4 has mostly been released with either a 55 amp esc or the heli version 60 amp over here!

95% of all the pictures Ive seen have always had the Rx on the back and the Esc up front..

Most are now moving the esc to one of the sides, either right or left, so it sits over the motor with some double sided tape.

Only comment is the front of the lower tray, it is open to damage to anything put there in a front end crash, I think thats why people are moving the esc to the side.

Just be careful if you decide on mounting up front as wires can catch the out runner motor.

Hey guys...thank you for the replies! I did see the Finless video on electronics placement. Bob chose to install a smaller 35A ESC instead of the Scorpion 55A ESC that was sent to him.

I ordered the 45A ESC after reading another Forum where Lucien from Scorpion recommended it as the best match for the HK2221-8 motor. I should have watched Finless' video first or checked dimensions of the ESC's:

          Scorpion Commander V2 45A is 2.95" long
          Scorpion Commander V2 55A is 3.11" long
          Scorpion Commander V2 60A is 2.48" long

The 45A definitely sticks way out the front! I'm not liking the risk of ESC damage on a front end crash.

Is balance an issue on the side mount? It would seem that CG is better when mounted on rear tray?? How about having the receiver near the battery and motor? I'm probably worrying too much. I suppose I could just install and give it a whirl....
