  • Beam E4 Build

    Hi Guys
    Started my Beam Build today.
Built the frames up although I have a problem with the tail mounting sections (pinch bolt to lower one side 2x).

The tapped holes for the 6mm screws don't seem to go deep enough, looks as though I will have to grind 0.5mm max off the screws. Anyone else had the same problem?

    Looks great already.

No problem with mine in this area.
Stupid question here. Have you put the vertical stab fin on??

I would think he is describing one of the boom clamps.
If it is still tight after fitting with a socket washer, then possibly there might be a bit of left over metal in the hole, try removing the part and tap on the bench.

If you don’t know anyone with a 2mm tap, then give me a ring at evorc anytime, we can sort something out.

Thanks - I did tap them on the bench.
        No swarf in the holes.

I think the holes just aren't tapped deep enough. As I have no 2mm tap, all 6mm screws (3 per) required 0.5mm ground off.

If it was any worse I would have given you a call.

        Looking good already

        Thanks

Finished the main build, apart from main blades.

Want to get the electronics setup, mounted and operational before fitting and setting the main blades.

Spun it up with flybar and tail rotor whilst setting up the basics on the ESC.
          What a sound FANTASTIC.

Can't wait to get it up but I want to go through the setup thoroughly first.
Massive learning curve which is mainly why I'm taking my time to get it right (hopefully).

          2 Questions

          1. Fitted Futaba S9257 with the standard kit screws, the head almost drops in the mounting holes of the casing. Anybody done anything different?

          2. Are you supposed to lube anything - if so with what? I was going to spray the belt with silicone and put a small drop of oil on the Swashplate Ball?

Your on the ball with the lube Smoothy, maybe a little on the tail output shaft as well where the slider moved along it.

I can recommend the Aurrorra 3S 40C batteries, it has transformed my Beam, if you get normal 18C ones, then you might regret it later on in your flying (speaking from experiance).

                She Flys

                Maidened today

Only a little hover about a foot off the deck, but very stable.
                A nice feeling.

I was in 2 minds about me or getting an experienced flyer to test it but decided to take the plunge - glad I did.

Need some space for a proper flight now.
Set at 30% expo and 50% reduction on gyro rudder speed for first flight.
