  • Calling all begginers!

I wondering there is quite a few guys that have brought a Beam now!

Some are 3d lunatics and some are just beginners.

I know for some its there first model, just asking why and at what stage some of you went the Beam route..

I always thought it would be people that have tried a cheap Helli to dabble or got a blade 400 and wanted the next move up.

Other that the 3d guys, I am surprised how easy the beam has been taken by the guys that have never build a Helli at all, with very little questions as well..

Just show the help off the forum and good instruction with a simple working design has help all..

I will second that great heli and even better backup service

I went for the beam straight after the hbk 2 was sick of it falling to bits so i did some research and came up trumps on the beam
Ok i cant fly it well yet but atleast i have the right machine for the job and with the build quality and the amount of servicable parts should last me years
btw rob did you get my order ok

I'd been lurking/researching on a casual basis for a few months after starting off with a couple of coaxials and deciding I wanted something more challenging and involved. Two things soon became clear to me from from the reading I was doing on here. Bigger is easier to fly (which I know from messing around on Phoenix), as are those models with higher quality parts and a better design.

Although bigger is easier, I decided on a 450 size as parts are generally cheaper, I'd already read loads about them and, if I'm honest, the bigger birds just seem that much more scary for a newbie like me. So, 450 it was.

I did think about getting a Blade 400 (lots of others with them on here, so loads of support), but the idea of buying something of a recognised higher quality appealed. At least that way, if I build it and set it up properly, it should have the potential to be more stable and accurate, which I guess will make learning to fly and moving on to more advanced stuff all the more rewarding.

The obvious route seemed to be the Trex 450, but I kept hearing about other models that were of comparable or better quality and that perfomed better....Rave, Beam etc. Then the thing that clinched it for me.....

Clicked the banner on this forum for Evolution RC and noticed that they stocked both the Rave and the Beam, that they were fairly local and that there was loads of good feedback about them in the forums. Spoke to Rob on the phone and after a short, yet informative chat, decided on the Beam.

Oh, yeah...must add a big thank you to Rob because I have pestered him a few times on the phone since buying my Beam and he's always taken the time to advise me and explain things. Excellent customer service from someone who clearly loves the business he's in....thanks!!

Even though I'm only at the build stage right now I'm still loving it because I like studying things like Finless Bob's build videos and Jiberjabers build blog and then taking my time to make sure I get the construction right. That in itself is rewarding.

I'll admit, I'm a little nervous about the prospect of powering it up and, most likely pranging it, but nothing like I would be if it wasn't for experiencing the real friendly attitude and great level of support and advice offered by all the guys on this forum.

I have been looking for some weeks, posting a few questions and reviewing lots of posts both here and Helifreak.

I started looking at a Blade 400 or Twister Storm but on every post there was always the comment about going 500 as they are easier to fly due to there size. The down side is the cost of repairs. and the Lipos.
In my view the Blade or Twister is always going to be a stepping stone to a better quality machine.

The T-Rex 450 was my next choice and again in all the posts a Beam owner would say it was better and more stable.
Looking into the stability aspect (being a beginner) depending on setup, many reviews said it was better than the T-Rex and could handle a bit of a breeze. The wider scope of both Beam and T-Rex was another plus.

Going through Finless Vids, and YouTube it does look very well engineered and as an Engineer myself I believe it to be of better quality than the T-Rex.

I am looking forward to the build, I will learn more starting from scratch than I would repairing a pre built machine.

The down side for me is my local model shop does not stock Beam parts but I am sure after reading many posts Evo will give great service.

My son ashley had a trex 450 s but wanted the beam, we now have one, is an excellent easy build like the align helis, very high quality and looks the nuts.
This has got to be the most impressive heli since align took over the market and if beam continue to bring others out, i.e 600n etc they will be bitting at aligns heels for market share.
Had it's first proper flight in my hands yesterday and is impressive, tracks perfect, rock solid tail very responsive even with the standard blades but running a bit tame for my lad as it is his heli.
He had a hover around yesterday, and we went out again today and he was off flying circuits doing flips thats how confident he was and was the best i have seen him fly.
I myself own a Rave and though i would say the rave is a pure 3d basher and the beam is more of an allrounder as will allow you to go from begineer to 3d pro.
The only down side i would say is that it is a little heavy and you can feel that when trying to chuck it round it is a bit slow to respond but i am comparing it to a highly strung rave so take that with a pinch of salt.
All in all, for a first go, they have got it almost perfect that is very rare, well done Rob for bringing us such an excellent heli to the uk market and i would recommend one no probs

Every time i pick up the beam it brings a smile to my face,my first heli was the cx2 just loved it but i wanted something a bit more challenging, so went onto the forums the trex was my first choice only because my local model shop stocked them so i went and orded one but i was then told no stock. In the mean time went back to looking on the forums and found the beam e4 .With everyone who owned one saying how good they were, i checked out the finless build vids and was really impressed how it went together have always enjoyed putting things together. After a quick chat with Rob i orderd one.Cancelled the trex, Turns out right decision really enjoyed the build had a quick word with Rob about setup for a beginner really heplfull and very plesent to talk to.Had my first hover in the garden yesterday it was great got through a few lipo's just gets better all the time, Now looking to join our local club and get flying properly.
I must say dealing with evolution has been a real pleasure have orderd a few spares since buying the beam just incase i break it and postage is really quick and the parts are all in stock,Well done rob. just put three more lipo's through it in the garden so much better than using the simulator it's just great, I would deffinetly recomend it for a novice just so stable after a couple of hovers, big plus no upgrading it's all in the box.
                  Just love my heli Del
                  Well done Rob.

I hate the word, but the Beam e4 is awesome!

Just hovering brings a huge grin to my face......had 10 flights this weekend.....never touched the Trex 500 or the TS3D!!!!!

Not only is the Beam a joy in everyway....you get the added bonus of Rob being onboard. Who makes the whole experience very personal and does'nt turn his back on you once you've bought one......great deal all round...

                    Keep it going Rob.....

                      Beam E4

As a newbie I managed to get a Trex 450 xl to build as a first project and at a reasonable price from Midland.. and it even flies..

The quality of the beam es seen on the build blog here was so impressive in comparison to the align albeit an old version and recognizing that the V2 is the model of choice.. made me order the beam.

Great service and willing and well informed info from Rob.. whom I manage to catch skiing initially.. just confirmed the reported good quality of service and back- up.

Now looking forward to the build and setting up with help from my local club members, and lessons too.

                      Keep it up Rob

Customer support has to be a large factor in my book as well as reliability and although I have had my share of tail issues (all of which were self inflicted) the support I received from Rob is second to none.
Even down to him coming to our field today (Sunday) with a box full of parts to help me out with mine today.
Top marks Rob. Keep up the good work.
