Loctite

Hi, my Beam kit arrived yesterday and after studying the Finless build guide on Helifreaks and taking a look at Jiberjabers build blog on here I put the first few bits together. But before I go any further I just want to make sure I'm using the correct type of Loctite.

The manual says I need red and blue, but I've only got blue right now, though could pick up some red today. In the Finless video guide on Loctite, he says that for something like the Trex 450 you would only really need blue...so maybe that would be the same for the Beam?

From what I can see, the manual only seems to be saying to use red for fitting bearings, so I was okay for the first step as that involved the upper and lower bearing blocks and the bearing were already fitted. Both Finless and Juberjaber suggest it's okay to leave these as is and that there's no need to remove and re-loctite them. Haven't checked the rest of the bearings yet so they might not be pre-fitted.

So, should I be looking to buy some red loctite (or maybe green, which I think Jiberjaber used somewhere). Or, is it just blue that I should be using?

Sorry guys, I know it's probably quite a trivial point and might not matter much, but I just want to be sure I'm building this right. Don't want to have to strip it all down when I find out weeks later that some parts should have been fitted with red not blue

Green locktite is to attach the bearings to the bearing blocks. Check how snug they are when you offer tehm in and if they are a silightly tight fit there is no need for locktite... It makes them a sod to change after the crash that notches them. if they spin then you need a little. put a drop on a pin and let capillary action pull it around the bearing shell to the block you dont need very much. Do the dame on the shaft if its sloppy as it will spin inside the bearing if given a chance. again be spairing with the green stuff it does make it harder to disassemble

Cheers Steve. I'm on a bit of a learning curve here so apologies, but can I just ask a little more....

So would you use green just for inserting the bearings into the bearing blocks or everywhere where bearings are involved? The manual is saying to use red for all fittings involving bearings.

From what I can see most (if not all) sections of the build inivolving bearings seem to have been pre-built. Unless I've missed something these include the tail housing, the seesaw mixing arm and the washout arm. I guess these are okay to leave as is...therefore I won't need any green (or red).

Red locktite is from across the pond... 243 for screws 603 for bearing retention. only the mains and around the starter / clutch the rest arnt normally too bad...

i only used blue on the parts indicated in the manual to use loctite.
i did not use any on the frame/bearings or tail.. and so far no issues. (touch wood).

Oh, by the way this is not green in colour.

Loctite do a green colour adhesive but it for using on threaded bolts after you have assembled them. It is so thin it will work its way down the threads.
