Anyone else had this, my lads main shaft was bent and so has grounded the heli, took me a while to figure out where the vibes were coming from

i've had this with a trex 600n. i crashed the heli and i dialed the old start shaft and i thought it was marginal, i took a new one out packet and done same test...it was worse! i just put the old one back in. to this day it's in there.

    cheers

I have one that has a very slight, and I mean slight, bend in it from new. Hardly noticeable but it is there.
I remember another club member flying his BEAM and the head just suddenly keeled over from a bent shaft.
I think the early ones may have been a bit soft but I believe they are hardened now.
Perhaps rspblake might clear it up a bit?

Not sure if this is the cause?

Richie, had a main shaft bend once when he flicked into idle up running a 16 tooth pinion on a 2221-8 at 100% throttle curve..

He used the largest pinion in the kit, thinking he wanted the most power..

At the time it was thought it was a bad batch of main shaft.. We then worked out what had happed, so we knew it was just over speeding the of head.. self in-flicked.

If you work it out its a 150 tooth main gear with a 16 tooth pinion running a 3595kv motor at 100%, silly speeds on the head why in normal it was fine as it was only at 85%. still silly but probably its limit!

From the chat with James he is running the 6 motor with a 16 tooth.. can't say if its the main shaft, but 4400kv at 70% would be high!

Sent a new main shaft to try, including a gift

The instruction chart gives a guideline for Kv motor to pinion think the 16 tooth is for a 2500kv motor from memory..

But a good call as people might make the same mistake in the future, the drive train on the beam compare to a Rex is a lot quiter and you would be forgiven to think that the head speed is not that high..

        Hope that might help!

        Rob

Thought i had a bent main shaft from new when i rebuilt my Trex 600 Super Pro. Turned out that i put the bent shaft back in the heli and threw the new one in the bin!!

Morale of the story is that all your flying buddies will P***S their pants laughing at you.

Cheers Rob, you are a star, i had the percentage at 70% in normal mode, but as you say it is a very quite drive chain i just don't think it is as noticable as on a rex. Also was 150% on the transmitter as this copied over from the rex so might of been a bit high.
I have come home tonight and tweeked the transmitter settings lower and changed the pinion to the smaller one.
Thanks very much for sending the shaft rob, first class service as always, and the good advise today.
I will test again and work my way up on the settings until i find a good head speed

Maybe a bit high then Rob
Saying that run the rave high but is a bigger main gear so lower head speed and that kick arse.
Like i said, i think i will just take a couple of batts to the field and play set the head speed, get it right for my lad to continue his circuit training and for me to have a play and compare it to the rave, i expect it won't hang so well, but thats more down to blade sizes than the heli but i am hopping for nice quick cyclics so hence why i want a nice high head speed

Put some CY Stubz on mine (courtesy of Eddie) and the thing flips and rolls like nobody's business now.
RichieClarkie said he wasn't too keen on them though as they make the heli feel tippy.
Personally I really like them but I'm only a novice really compared to him so what do I know.

I think I better clarify that.

I don't like the little stubz in windy conditions as much. I think the standard paddles are excellent and like anything the livens your model up windy conditions I find the stubz less forgiving and prone to wandering.

In normal conditions the cyclics with stubz come even more alive and crisp. Roll and flip rate are great, in fact I slow mine down. If you compare to the TREX 450 V2 the V2 seems really slow.

Am I taking mine off my Beam - nope

BTW James the people over on Bumryder rekon the highest pinion you want for the 6 motor is an 11T.

Personaly I rekon the 8 motor is the best bet and I've got loads of power.

Going to see what flight times i get with the -6 and i have the smaller pinion fitted now, will also get a even smaller one from Rob when i order some spares at some point, if i still find the flight times are to low will swap to a -8 motor, but need to do a bit of experimenting first, the heli itself i am very impressed with, very high quality kit, a match for align easy, if this is what there first 450 is like, i am very much looking forward to what the 50 size nitro will be like

the main shaft in my 600 is slightly bent from new straight out the box, not changed it as its marginal
