  • Just bought a Beam :-)

After reading a few reviews on the beam i took the plunge and bought a kit.
Really looking forward to starting the build, in the meantime i will be smashing out lots of time on the sim and mini pred !

Is the Beam supper stable? At the mo i can hover out a bat on the mini pred and that thing swings about a bit .

Anyway, stand by for some questions from a Beam newboy:-)

    Great news, enjoy the build.

It can be as stable or unstable as you set it up. If you set it up right, there is more chance of it staying set up due to the number of CNC parts on there.

There's probably a few places with the Beam in which have stock from Rob, I think Buzflyer now carry them.

              Great choice.

Having run the Beam for a few months now I am still stunned as to how well it flies especially with the new Revolution ICANN pack. There are a new wave of lipos that are giving us more power so it's good news for leccy flyers.

As Jason said you can make it as stable or unstable as you want, but compared to your minipred I think you are going to be happy.

If you are stuck on anything please feel free to PM me or of course there are several heli addicts now running them so you will have plenty of help available.

              Have fun

Cheers chaps, really looking forward to getting stuck in. Jiberjabas E4 build thread and pics swung it :-)
I got the Heli from Buzz fly, ordered last night so it should be here in the morning sometime. Better clear the kitchen table in preperation :-)
Does it come with loctight ? I meant to pinch some from work but forgot!

To fair to the Mini pred hasnt been half bad, im relative noob but have learnt a load from it. It flew out the box and it wasnt long before the training arms were off, probably the third battery i think. It does tend to be a bit glitchy though, (think I will put the Beam on 2.4) I Will keep the pred to practise on along with the Pheonix.

I will defo be back to ask questions no doubt

2.4Ghz is the way to go for sure.
I don't remember mine coming with loctite so I think you will have to nip down to B&Q to pick some up.

I was only making light about the M/Pred mate, but your flying will come on leaps & bounds with your new Beam, thats one serious piece of kit.

Hats off to the M/Pred for getting you this far.

Chaps, I bought the Beam without any electrics. can you cast your eyes over this lot and give any advice. This is the options from Buzz fly that I will have to get at some point.

                      I already have a FUTABA T6EX and a 617 rx both on 2.4Ghz

Should I go for the standard pack or shell out a bit more for the Deluxe ??

                      Standard electrics pack includes:
                      GAUI gyro, 3 x HS-65HB + 1 x HS-56HB Hi-tec servos.

                      Deluxe elctrics pack includes:
                      Futaba GY401 + 9257 tail servo, 3 x HS-65HB servos

                      Motor and ESC:
Scorpion HK2221-6 and Scorpion Commander 55A ESC

I would go for the higher specced gyro and servo and maybe even think about using hs-65MG as they are metal geared.
The motor and ESC are good too.

I'd get the -8 motor, esp if you are just hovering around, the -6 is a bit mad
ESC is good, not sure what the price difference is between delux and normal, 401 will serve you well though.

Can you get an alternative motor on the deal?
                          Regards,

Jason, I'm pleased you mentioned the -8 motor as Rob from evorc stated exactly the same, as well as longer flight battery life.

You'll also notice that evorc ESC is version two not like the BuzzFlyer deal...

                            http://www.evorc.com/product.php/625...tor-v2-55a-esc

Simple reason why I waited.......I'd contact Rob who will advise about you electrics etc, and you will proabably save dosh too...

PS.....when I was asking questions about what kit I should use check out the digital version of the HS 65MGs, the HS-5065MGs they are what I'm about to use...

Good luck with the build mate...

I agree with Eddie - Remember you don't need to go to just one supplier for this stuff. Don't rush and get a few peoples opinion on this.

This is what I would buy:

                              Cyclic - 3 x 65MGs
                              Tail servo - Futaba9257
Gyro - Spartan 760 (These gyros have just come back in stock and are MUCH better than a 401)
                              Motor - Scorpion 2221-8 (NOT the 6)
                              ESC - Scorpion 55a

This is my setup and it's very capable
I'd call Rob Blake at Evo RC and I'm sure he will do you a good deal. He is the importer for Beam too so you can always get spares from him.

Also you want to think about what Lipos and charger you want to run.

Revolution 2100 18C packs are a great choice for a beginner (although I've been 3Ding mine for the last 18months!)
Cellpro 4s is a very popular choice and will look after your packs. Plus there's a new charger out which will do other batter technologies too.

Have a chat with Mike at Aurrora as he's also very helpful.
