  • New Beam 500

I don't think this has been posted yet (I couldn't find it anyway). The forthcoming Beam E5 Archon. Looks the same size as the Trex 500 / Compass Atom.

A word of caution; you may want to turn the sound off

I think that looks pretty neat. In one of the last shots it is a shame the back servo isn't mounted inside the frame.

The motor is similar spec to the Align 500MX so it looks to be a 500 size model.

Yeah it looks really classy and I'll be interested to see what the price is and tempted to replace my Trex with one but we shall see. It says 425 to 480mm blades so same size as the Trex, Atom, Protos but I guess the boom is a bit longer. If it keeps in the tradition of the Avantgarde it should be light and very precise.

I like the look, so long as you can get the parts was considering the 600 but i'm a little nervous of the support for this brand when you look at the big discount being offered by FL on the 600.

it's bad enough for MSH (this was the main driver for me creating RCFerret)

i'm sure i'm wrong on this

The tail looks beefy, there is no way that belt will come off!

It's a legit concern. The way it looks to me is a wait and see approach from FL as they don't want to hold a lot of stock if it's not selling but it's a catch-22 because dealer support is often a large factor in someone's buying decision.

With Beam the company, for the longest time it was just the E4 and various incarnations and then when the Avantgarde came out there wasn't much fanfare and only FL stocking them in the UK. I like mine very much and over the summer it had become my number one 'axe' and then I had a crash and had to wait quite a while for some parts that I had to get from the USA. Now I wouldn't be as concerned because I've been spending more time with the Dune.

The Avantgarde is probably the sleekest and most stylish heli I own and it flies great. So I hope there is good support for the 500 and I also hope they have tested it very thoroughly and corrected any weak points.

Beauty is in the eye etc. looks beefy enough ..and with the limitations of how you can build these things looks based on a 450 pro with suitable mods to beef it up and a belt tail - and (IMO) sadly someone's decison to splatter red anodising all over the place which gives me horrible memories of HBK2 upgrade parts.

I'm sure it's a nice machine and flies well but just doesn't do it for me on looks

                Belt drive yay!
Not so sure about the low slung motor and servo mounts its all really spread out and a long way from the CG increasing the moment of inertia making it harder work for the fbl and damping :/
