  • dum..dum...dum. Another clutch bites the dust!

So just got back from flying.

I noticed the 700 seemed to be making a weird metallic sound in flight. I brought it in to land, and as I did, I saw some stuff drop off it. I landed it properly and inspected it, and underneath it was a small blue square of clutch material.

Looking at it something has happened, its ruined the fan shroud and I dont know what the state of the clutch is like. Will report more as I take it apart shortly...Heres a pic of the damage...

..ave you tried glue on the liner? It's supposed to help.

(sorry I'm in that sort of mood)

I know mate, tell me about it, I think I must of mucked up the fitting of thise one somehow - maybe I didnt use enough araldite, I dont know. Im going to pull it out and assess, I just hope the clutch itself isnt goosed from running with no/half a liner.

Untouched out of the Heli. I don't think I'm very good at glueing these

Stock align new part going back in ( I bought a spare!) so no worries now about if its glued properly. I had to squeeze the quk clutch a bit I'm the vice though to get it to fit nicely. It went in before but was very tight, I guess it opened up when the liner disintegrated. The sides of it are smooth so fingers crossed I can have some trouble free flying now!!!

Carl, you don't need much epoxy but you need a bit

Mix it thoroughly and apply to the back of the liner only after cutting to length. I've never had one come away like that

I normally smear it on the bell. I dont think I used enough...Well I cant of! I was too conscious of it squidging out the edges.

New bell with pre fitted liner going in, fingers crossed for that one

Problem with putting on the bell is it sinks to the bottom. Putting it on the liner only allows you to make sure it's where you need it. You can also see you've not put too much on

You shouldnt be putting the clutch in a vice mate!

It was only a gentle squeeze, just to shrink it down a bit.

When i put the clutch into the new bell, it fitted but needed quite a lot of force, and I could barely spin the bell on the clutch when not fitted to the heli.

I squeezed the clutch ears in a vice ever so slightly and test fitted, better but not right still. A couple more tries with a little more pressure each time and it now feels good. You can insert the clutch into the bell and spin it easily but you can still feel a little bit of a drag. Hopefully itll work ok?
