Whilst we are on the frank advice, unless you understand fully the workings of your helicopter and it has been set up correctly, the likleyhood of your model getting wrecked and whilst it is getting wrecked breaking something and or somebody is very very high, get insurance, get to a local club, get it set up, get it checked, fly safely.

Do not even think about starting it until you do.
-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

      And a DX8 too

Also, without being condescending you are telling us to read your previous posts, why should we? You are asking the questions, it's not up to us to research your history.

I started in Helis 24-25 years ago with a MFA 500 CP Heli, and knew nothing about it, and there was no Internet then. You can research all the answers you wish via the Internet, just as I am doing now as I embark on FPV flying. I spend many hours reading the forums, filtering out the crap and getting a general feel for the right gear to buy etc.

Please take the advise given to you here, get insurance, and ask an experienced pilot to test fly your Heli first.

        Good luck.

Valid points from everyone. To some it up, no you don't need one, but it helps. It will maintain a more constant RPM of the blades (head speed) better than any throttle curve you can set up by hand.

You set up a throttle curve so that 50% (half throttle) doesn't necessarily mean you're giving 50% power to the motor - you tweak the response of the throttle to the model, the engine and also your liking.

A governor however, governs the speed of the blade automatically for you. You program it (each brand is different) to maintain a head speed as best it can. Like said above, as you move the throttle stick, the angle (pitch) in the blades increases to give lift. This increase in lift, increases the load to the engine (as said above, like driving up hill). As the load increases, the engine is unable to maintain a constant head speed, so you lose climbing power etc. A governor monitors the head speed using a sensor and a magnet that passes it with each rotation. The governor then adjusts the throttle servo accordingly.

          Hope this makes sense.

As said above, you've come here asking for help which is great We can answer according to your skill level as best we can, however, it isn't the responsibility of members to search your posts and gauge precisely this skill level.

Also, it is very complex but enjoyable hobby, so a lot of reading and research is always involved. Call me a geek, but that's a very important and enjoyable part of the hobby for me

Apologies. I gather this was aimed at my offer to sell the Revlock. No worries, just thought I'd offer!

Gentlemen, reading the thread before posting a new comment in it, allows one to understand the context of the discussion and perhaps avoid posting irrelevant information, information that someone else has provided earlier, or perhaps posting information that is out of context. I would presume this would be a sensible course of action rather than just popping in and adding a comment gun-ho. I tend to be a logical analytical minded person , so forgive me if this makes too much sense. May I respectfully ask that we get back on thread now that we all understand each other?

                  WTF!!

You accuse me of not reading your opening post? What do you want me to do? Look up and read all your previous threads to see if the answer I give is relevant to you question in a different thread?

You asked a direct question in this thread that I and many others have tried in plain English to answer, and you have the audacity to kick into us for helping!!

I shall not bother to help you in future, and my guess is many will think the same!! Good luck!!

I dont understand why you are reacting in this way.
i was only making a suggestion to read the thread because in one example thread i started I posted about my uncle passing away and I received the heli equipment from his estate, then later on a poster asked why I am not liaising with my uncle. I found this slightly insensitive and would have preferred readers to read the entire thread. Gosh, if you dont want to help then I probably am better off without you as the reaction is overly excessive and my comments were not taken in the context they were intended. Id rather you didnt help actually as i find your agressiveness rather unwarranted Rob, acronyms like "WTF" (What the f??k) are certainly not a language I find respectful so i am rather pleased you dont want to "offer help"
                      I've closed this thread.

I'm sorry but that's not how it went down.

You asked for help, we gave it. It wasn't simple enough, and we apologised and toned it down for a beginner. I'm trying to be as polite as possible here. You essentially told us it wasn't good enough and we should go searching through all of your threads to get your RC background. That's not how it works I'm afraid.

I'm not going to argue about this. Contact me via PM if you must.
