  • 700DFC questions

I finally go around to popping the Garrt 700DFC head into my LE 700N this afternoon.

The default assembly did require the shaft collar to be moved (hardly suprising) but the default link lengths on DFC arms were such tha when I just clipped it into place n my 700N flybar servo arms it was within 2 degs of zero pitch at my tx's zero pitch setting (still set as a flybar). The pitch range I get with those same settings is +2degs o around +17 (15 degs +ve) and +2degs to -18degs (20 degs -ve) so something like 35 degs pitch range. I was set for +/-14 before

(and yes I do know how to adjust that)

    The questions:
Is it necessary to swap the servo horns on the 610's for smaller? The argument is between resolution and speed of transit hrough the required arc.
There are obviously limitations on position with an A-arm - compromises may be necessary but looks like enough adjusment on the DFC arms to pull that 2 degs down

    Visually looks very nice.

Next decision is which flybarless unit......I'd have gone for the BD3SX but out of stock everywhere UK.. which leaves me wih deciding between the MSH brain (I fancy playing with self righting) or the VXn while it's cheap..a few hours to decide..

Imho vx1 works awesome on 700n ;-) I'm maybe a little biased no but it is an awesome unit....with regards to your dfc linkage easiest way is to get slightly longer links forget the part number think its the 700 newly link set. This will sort your problem

I would try the MSH Brain, buy once buy right.Especially if you want to play with self levelling, and avoid buying something just because its cheap(vx1n).

Looking forward too seeing this self level bail out lark work on a nitro...KDE do some parts for the head that help with the geometry.....

As it happens both the brain and the vxn with datapod offer are the same price at F-L.
I went with the brain mostly after watching Bert K's vid - although I always remain sceptical about endorsements when folk are being paid to make them. If BD3SX had been available then there's a lot of 'net talk/support for that unit and I'd probably have gone that route..But equally I don't buy stuff just 'cos it's expensive or because of a bunch of noisy fanboys.

'You get what you pay for' = 'you get what you can get ripped off for' in my book.

I was also being a bit stupid with my link questions - because the fit was so close just popping that dfc head on I kinda thought it might be possible to do quick swaps back to fb - but there'll be far too much change in wiring for that.

The real problem is the A-arm geometry. I think it's going to need to be lower for perfection and one could only shave a mm or so off it's top link.

Final nuisance is the regulator issue. I've been happily flying this heli on the align reg (although I had the typical align reg fault on my 600N and went to an elyQ). Higher power regulators rather ruin the neatness of FBL units with sat plugs or s-bus links if you route the servo power through them. An FBL unit one can pump 20A through it's bus would be nicer - one with a deans socket on the side for instance.

Skookam do a nice power bus with a remote switch...the new black edition is supposed to be very good as well....

right I had brain on 700n and with a bent a arm (no I didn't know it was bent at the time) very stable didn't like tail though (baring in mind I dunno what im doing on fbl) I then sold my brains to pay rent I then got vx1 exalent tail (as you can expect) works out the box fine only tweeking ive done is tail gain throttle gain and in the wizard now set to 700 size bird (wow what a different machine) if you like the responsiveness of flybar you will love the vx1

I believe you will probly love both once got the feel for them but the vx1 has a more natural feel just my 2p's worth and bare in mind I have no idea how to set this vx1 up so im sure im yet to be wow'd even more than just setting to 700 in heli wizaed

EDIT just a note if you get brain think real hard how you gonna mount it as u need pc to do ajustments. I had mine so cables faces head so I could plug usb lead in. I only had signal wires connected as I made my own bus, and in this orientation allways had rubbling problems with the wires (just thought i'd point my mistake out )

I made the access mistake with mounting a spartan gyro so it was difficult to get to the press switch once...ya learns. And as is happens the tail on this 700N has always been a bit of an issue. the original GP760 gyro was a disaster of wagging.. the spartan ws fne in most situations but I could never rid it of a tendency to waggle in FFF unless the gain was way way down and then a bit soggy for other manoeuvers. I lost count of how many times i played with the tail trying to sort it before just giving up and accepting it.

I'm never going to be a 3D god..actually don't have a problem with flybars...though on smaller birds fbl makes it way easier. The ony real reason for changing was that FBL looks nicer, fewer head parts and I found the Garrt head cheap enough to go play with. There's no point spending large dollops of money just for the sake of it... or wasting flying time pratting about with computers and fiddling ..unless that aspect floats yer boat more than it does for me..

Keeping costs down is important to me - irrespective of whether i can afford it; there's always other stuff I ache for.
Planehazza kindly sent me an elyQ reg when i damaged mine..which i have managed to repair. So if can find a way of making it a useable case then tht will be the regulator. I;ve got some ideas towards that although it might not be visually pretty.

if ya anything like me then who cares as long as it works and the mess is hidden with the lid on :P

when I was a kid I had the best sounding sound system but people were am,azed when they saw how it was sliding around in the boot with extra long cables every where. I also had the best security system bit of rope with a million knots tied from inside (people tried to get in every nite but never did they open doors and crawl in to boot from back seats :P ) yet every 1 else spent loads of money making it look nice just to have stolen shortly after
