by the looks of it, very slowly and looking at the other parts in low volumes ... this hobby's supplies reminds me like apple some times, big push and talk about then its nowhere available in the required volume. in addition to this, I won't upgrade anyway until they decide to ship a black autorotation gear as well ...

PArts arrived this morning, and spent a happy hour or so striping the old white gears.

The came the challenge of the night getting the bearings to fit on the new black gears. I dont know who designed the gears, but fit they dont without a great deal of force.

I now have a very notchy tail end, and tight front tail gears.

Has anyone else managed to get these together without ending up with tight notchy drive chain?

It all depends how you put them on. I press mine on nice and square in a vice. If you start whacking them on you will ruin the bearings. Do you have any end float in the rear TT gear with the new shaft on? I think I will need to shim mine a little.
The new hub has taken up all the slop I'm the tail grips too

Yes all the slops have gone from the tail grips. I have been using some parallel action pliers designed for doing just this job, but they were not man enough for the job.

I finally froze the gears to get them as small as posible and used two pairs of adjustable grips either side of the bearing/gear and gradually(1mm) at a time got them to slide down the gear.

                    Hey.

Ive just popped my black gear in the tail hub and the tolerance of these gears is too great in my opionion. I measured the old white gear and the newer black gear is 0.15mm bigger. The original white gear is a tight fit, this new gear is too tight!
I spun mine up and using some emery paper took a few thou off the diameter, which has helped but I may replace it and the bearings in time as im not too happy.

                          Hey Buddy.

In all honesty my own machine never suffered too badly with the buzz/vibes and I managed to totally remove it with a few tweeks and so I wasn't too worried about the stock tail shaft being a weak point. However it's always in the back of your mind that should something develope part way through a flight, the first thing to go has been the step downed portion of the tail output shaft.
So I chose to change only the tail gear and shaft, leaving the front new black gears in the packet, as I have no desire to chop wood yet

Quite why Align have left a tolerance this big, as the interference fit of the gear within the bearings is just too great. I would suggest to do as I did perhaps and smooth the plastic gear down to measure the same as the old white gear, this will limit any force put on the bearings as you slide it in place. As unfortunately there is no other easy way than to force the gear through the bearing which then subjects it to side loads that it isn't designed for.
I suggest to Miniman above to pop the gear into the freezer and he's got his fitted, but this trick I tried myself and felt it just wasn't going to help.

Yeah theres end float on mine grant without a shim the gearmesh is a bit rough but its smooth as with the shim.

No worries ian, i put it on without too much fuss just used a socket of the correct size to sit on just the inner race and a vice and pressed the bearings on. im happy with mine, but as grant suggested using a shim (0.1mm) has taken the end float out and corrected the gear mesh too.
