  • Kontronik Jive ESC Motor Polarity

I'm currently wiring up a Kontronik Jive 80+ HV ESC to my 600EFL. But I have a question about the three motor wires.

The Jive ESC manual says that the wiring does not matter. You can swap them around latter, or reprogram later to reverse the motor direction. However, call me fussy. I would like to wire the right wire to the right motor wire. Negative to black, positive to red and the other to blue on the motor, so that the rotor goes clockwise as viewed from the top, as it should. I plan to shrink colour-coded wraps to the wire terminals accordingly. The kit comes with red, black and blue shrink wraps.

So my question is this: which wire should go to blue? The centre one from the ESC? Which should go to black, etc?

The three wires are the same electrically. I'm not sure there is a standard. Connect up in the way that appears most sensible and if you want to change direction you can either do it by swopping two wires or usually by software in the speed controller.

It honestly makes no difference at all.

+1 if the motor spins the wrong way simply switch any 2.

This causes no issues or damage what so ever

It may seem strange but it does make sense. It can be explained if you really want to know but perhaps best when its raining and you can't fly. It won't teach you anything interesting about helis.

Many thanks. I went ahead and wired up blue to the middle wire, black and red to the outer wires. Just because it looked right!

The motor went backwards. So I reversed it using mode 7.

Seems strange that it does not matter. I can understand positive and negative swapping. But neutral? Anyway, as you all say along with the manual: it doesn't matter.

That's because they aren't really +ve, -ve and neutral on a brushless motor/ESC
