  • T rex 600E Pro tail speedup and universal motor mount.

If anyone running a 600E pro wants to speed the tail up or change motor pinion/actual motor, the confirmed info is here for the tail rotor speedup using new Align parts. In a nutshell its the 600N or 550E front TT gearset and the new auto hub for those with an 'A' after the part No.

    And the KDE motor mount.

KDE Direct - TREX 600E PRO Series Universal Motor Mount and Pinion Support

With the stock 13t pinion its geared to run 2500 to 2700HS dropping to the 700E 12T helical pinion which this motor mount allows will bring geared HS to 2000 to 2250 as well as lowering the torque and allowing more duration,,,,nice

Are you going to run this combo Chris, or wait until Align actually address the problem with their own upgrades?

I am going to get the KDE motor mount, the gears are Align parts are already available but have now been confirmed as a viable working solution.

Being able to knock a tooth down on the motor pinion will help enormously, but i wont be building the second 600E pro just yet,,something else has sorta come up first,,blame Laurence

Hi Chris, so has this totally eliminated the tail blowing out issue?
If so I'm back in the thinking of buying one.

As for the KDE motor mount, your going this way and dropping the hs? Will this still be ok with the tail blowout issue??

As for the Logo, awesome choice

            Hi Ben

I am gonna sit this one out for a while and see how it progresses. The main issue for some was that Align in designing in such a high HS meant they had to reduce the ratio for the tail, causing problems for people wanting to run something like 2200rpm at most with weak tails that can blow out.

At 2200rpm mine wouldnt even hold a funnel on 95mm blades,TBH it was bloody terrible, running V bar by the way.

People have found that a newly designed auto gear for the 550 and 600N fits the 600E Pro autohub so you can run 600N front TT gears to mesh with this new autogear, these are Mod .5 the 600E stock is Mod .8.The current 550 and 600N/old E auto gear does not fit it.

Align dont seem to want to come forward and say this is OK,maybe they think the finer gears could strip, maybe they have another solution in the pipeline. They have geared it as 3.8 to 1,most other models this size run 4.5 to 1 so if its in this range the tail will hold regardless like most other models.

On a separate issue as the design HS is 2500 to 2700 its supplied with the appropriate pinion to give this and its not adjustable like the 700E as the motor is fixed position,i noticed that running 2200(Jive gov at 60%) the power would lag a bit and the motor, packs and esc got pretty warm.

In any other heli(Logo for instance) you could downsize the pinion to get it running sweet, cool and efficient, you cant do this as standard hence KDEs adjustable motor mount.

The 700E helical pinion is 12t,the stock one is 13T.I tried the 12t on mine and its miles out and needed the motor slid toward the gear more, the KDE mount will allow this.

According to Mr mels HS calc, the 13t does indeed give 2500 to 2700,a 12t give 2000 to 2200 so for me this would be ideal, another option is a lower KV motor of course.

I wrote my first one off and purchased a replacement kit from Skyline but have decided not to build it yet, probably gonna leave it till end of season when many many people have done all the Donkey work on this and i will just build it up then in the config thats proven to work reliably.

It is a really nice heli with some great design features but for me personally, they cocked it up.Align now defend this by saying on the American forums that its designed for absolute top end fliers for comps and demos that want blistering performance.

The arguement is well any heli will fly like that with such a high HS,they say theirs is specifically built for it though, interestingly their own blades carry warnings apparently on the box for 2200rpm maximum

If you run it at 2500 plus it flies really good but i have seen 2200rpm Logos fly better, running 105mm tail blades improves the tail hold at lower RPMS.

Theres a very interesting thread all about this on HF.
Also interesting the tail blow out only seems to affect Vbar users. 3gx seems to have better tail control in this instance

Yeh that's an interesting one,all I can say is the 3gx tail is very strong indeed, maybe it copes with the lower tail rpm.

If the tail is weak at 2200 and you think 2500+ is too high then why not try 2350?

It didn't become locked comfortably for me with the v bar until 2500 I tried going up from 2200 in 50 rpm steps approx.

When I build the new kit up I might get a 3gx for it as I like the one on my 550 but by that time there will be stacks of user feedback available on it so no faffing about reqd.

At 2450 the tail will be spinning the same speed as the old 600 at 2100. What are the 3D flight times using 3300mah packs? Align usually aims for 4-4.5 mins, if it does 4.5 mins at 2450rpm ide be happy. Remember a fast spinning tail also robs power and flight time.

As does a faster head but even more so.

Fast lads have now got the kde mount and new autogear in stock so ordered them and will start building the kit up for take two

Got the parts thru this morning, its going to be about a month or so before i can get the kit built up and ready to fly,but now i can run it in a well know configuration to me and will post how it goes.

Aiming for 2100 to 2200 on the head using the 700E 12t helical pinion. To me on the 13T at 2200 it seemed to labour a bit, like a car doing 30mph in 5th gear, you feel you need to change down a cog which you could not do with the fixed mount.

Mr Mels HS calc shows the 12t with the stock motor to be bang on for my desired speed.
