If the lipos come presolderd then it;s a no-brainer to use the same connector on the esc - why make work? I've alos made upa bunch of adapters for the variation in lipo connectors I already own rather than resolder the pack - but then lazness comes natural here...

They come with 5.5mm connectors from the factory which makes it sensible to put the same on your esc

EC5s for me, but not finding them easy to solder despite a 60W iron and leaded solder. Heat just wicks up the battery cable faster than I can supply it.

Will try a chisel tip next time.

I'm XT60 throughout, and agree that soldering 5000 Turnigy packs can seem like a pain UNLESS you un-solder the existing bullets (rather than chop them off) and then a reasonable soldering iron can conduct enough to melt the solder and make the new join to whatever you decide.

I learnt the hard way, after cutting the bullets off the first pack I tried to solder, and struggled for nearly an hour trying to re-tin! The other packs took me 2 mins each

I did cut the cable down though to fit in the XT60 plug. However, the amount of actual cable to the battery is still thicker than that going to the ESC, so being a simple country lad, I'm guessing it can still handle more amps than the ESC cable can accept

Yup EC5's! You don't want all that power to bottleneck on a low amp connector!

I'm in agreement with Tim.. I have to say you are wrong. XT60's are called XT60's for a reason (60 for max A) and they are clearly not the best connector to use when I and others have quoted EC5 handle twice the amps.. and the 10AWG wire does not fit properly without shaving. They are 5mm bullets srurrounded in a easy use protective case like the XT60's so makes them easy to use in every way but with twice the specs.

Yes, you can use the XT60's just like you can with EC3's on 6S.. but mentioning again.. you have to shave the wire to make them fit and also, with all that current going through them.. they wil get warm and in some circumstances melt together.. Check those connectors on XT60/EC3's on 6S.. I bet after little use.. those connector points are getting dull and rough

                Hey.

EC5's on my 550 and 700, work well, are rated correctly for the application and neat to.

XT60's are as written above not rated for more than 60amps, the stock 550 ESC is 70amps and the preferred ESC upgrade is 100amps so straight away XT60's are under rated.

Thanks for all your replies, I am going to use the EC5 connectors. Paul.

I have XT60 connectors here and sure as hell the wires on the Turnigy pack is no where near gonna fit into one of those without trimming half the wire away.

I use Castle Creations 5.5mm connectors on my T-Rex 550e for the lipos, XT60's on my 2s regulator packs on my 700's.!!
I have all turnigy 6 x packs 6s 2600mah 6 x 6s 4500 mah and 8 6s 5000mah all with ex60 connectors so how the hell am i wrong, would you like a photo posted up, ask james moon as he soldered most of them on.

Ross we are talking about the 6s 5000mAh packs here as stated in the 1st post

We have also seen pictures which Eddie posted of the relevant gauge wires being soldered on to the XT60

If your XT60's fit then you have different gauge wire to the rest of us

As for James fitting them he should know better but again if you are happy with 60A connectors on a heli drawing loads more then that's your choice.

Ross I best not use the same connectors as you as
A I might want to use your cells in my helis
B my cells in your helis when you say they are all flat
                          Cheers Paul

Couldn't agree more. All my helis and jets use the 4mm bullets that the TURNIGY batts come with as standard.
