  • Power loss issue

Had this issue happen a couple of times now, so thought I'd throw it out here to see if anyones encountered the same or got any ideas for a solution.

I've got a trex 550, castle ice 75, beastx (latest firmware) and optipower 5000mah lipos. Futaba T7C & Futaba receiver.

Upon start up, rotors coming up to full speed, I've lost all power and it dies. However, if I knock the throttle down to zero and power up again, seems to work fine and no issues.
Now I don't know if I've touched the throttle before rotors are up to full speed and it's not liked it and bombed the power out, or is it something else.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

hmm.. In the castle settings, under cutoffs tab, theres a setting for max current cut off.. what's that set to? Are you using gov or throttle curves?

Thx for the reply, seriously I couldn't tell you, I bought it of a club member and it's all been set up for me, as I'm basically a beginner / just getting back into it after a few years layoff, so all electronics stuff is beyond me atm, but sure I could find out from others.

I would expect it to be an ESC problem with the settings, but as you're starting over into electronics its hard to help you really.

its only doing it on spool up? never in flight?

If the blades are already spinning does it work or cut out?

Yes only in spool up, never happened in flight - yet! Blades are are spinning up to set rpm then cuts out

Did Roly give you a castle link for your ESC? I have one, we could check it over.

I don't think it's that. That is related to fixed wing aircraft really. It's certainly a cut off protection thing by the sounds of it. We need to get the laptop out and take a look.

Yeah so either the battery isn't holding up (unlikely IMO) or the esc needs a look at... Particularly with that cutoff I mentioned.

looking at the data logs will tell you what's going on or at least provide some clues.

also by "flying" do you mean hovering? With you just coming back to it I'm wondering how hard your pushing it?

the other thing is anything coming down hot? If the motor bearings are failing then this will increase the current demand massively. Also is the gear mesh right with some backlash on the gears?

Yeah just hovering tail and side on atm, Dani will hopefully get us sorted, could be worth a look at the bearings and gearing, or maybe the setup is wrong in the castle ESC, cheers

Try giving it a few seconds running at slow speed. Then spool up slowly. It might be something needs to get loose. Anything unexplained can cause a problem later. If you stick to static hovering low down it will land itself. Sounds like overcurrent though due to extra work needed from the motor. It might be spooling up too quickly, that can be like stalling a motor.
