Don't Ignore That Twitchy Tail

On Saturday I managed to plant my 500 due to lack of concentration (Talking to a fellow flier rather than paying full attention) at the bottom of a Nose In Loop I caught the long grass and picture #1 is the result, all plastic TT elements stripped and numerous other bits rather bent & broken.

Today in quite gusty conditions I had her back seemingly as good as new, then the tail flicked through 90 Deg a couple of times I put this down to the wind and made a mental note to check it at the end of the battery!

Sadly the end came rather more prematurely when the tail seemed to spin out completely with the heli flicking upside down before ploughing into the ground!

For just a moment it looked like an Alan Zabo move but I hadent planned it and it wasn't a pretty sight seeing all those bit flying into the air!

Result picture #2 can't be bad total wipe out twice in three days

Now apart from re-rebuilding it I've got to try and figure what gave way

Isee you use them 3D blades on the 500.

How do you find them?

I got a set for the 450pro and the 600 but not tried neither yet.

Well at least they always fly better after a crash, good luck finding the prob also

I'd suggest taking the back of the tail servo and checking the wires, i had a similar twitch in a cyclic servo that turned out to be wires coming away from the circuit board.

Sorry to see the damage mate. Twice in a couple of days is a bit of a pain, hopefully you will find out what caused the tail issue on the second plant. I see you use the TT - did you have to replace it in the first crash (can't really see the boom in the first pic), if not maybe there was more damage there than could be seen, if not maybe it was the servo?

Good luck with the rebuild - all part of flying these things!

Thanks Guys & Yes it's all part of the fun when flying heli's!

I managed to strip teeth off every part of the TT and the main drive cog on both occasions

I've had a quick look at the tail servo wires and you could be right it looks like one or more of the wires might be coming adrift from the plug at the receiver end!!!

On the plus side having picked up all the bits I went to the car got my 600 and thrashed that about for a couple of batteries instead.

I've got the 3D blades on my 500 & 700 and push them pretty hard as in vertical dives and very sharp banking, thus far they have proven perfectly fine but don't like being ploughed into the ground at full speed

Yet Again!

Yep rebuilt the heli again took it to the field having fitted it with a spare 401 Gyro then four batteries latter it went completely berserk!!!

It's been quite a windy morning which didn't bother me and I had flown three and a half batteries without fault then as I came out of a loop it went mental again!

It's really odd because it becomes uncontrollable like something else has interfered with it, I'm using 2.4 and have flown at this field for several years so I don't think it's external interference.

I know one thing for sure, I'm a bit slow on the take up but when fate says give it up as a bad job I really should listen!

I've found a quicker way of dismantling the heli now, well it's the third time in a week so the cutter makes short work of the job

Think I will lay this heli to rest and start afresh when I can afford to get a barebones kit from HK, sometimes you just have to walk away

Noooooo thats just ain't right! Really sorry to hear of your problem with the 500.

You mentioned that you used a spare 401 - did you replace the servo as well because everything seems to point to that at the moment.

Like the disc cutter idea - I've felt like using one on my heli's before as well.

oh and OMG what are those skids your using..?????? Are they spring loaded to give you a super powerful take off? or is it for the hard landings eh eh

They are Spider Gear Skids and though they might absorb a bumpy landing they're really aesthetic but also quite a bit wider than standard gear so easier to land in wind and not topple over!

In this case I think it landed Tail Rotor first although it was having a fit at the time so can't be sure

3 times... jesus christ - you've had an expensive few days!!!

I would be suspicious of one of the servos or reciever if ithe heli is going nuts during each flight. Clamp the bugger down next time and run it up full bore on the ground to check for glitching.

Blimey that is some sh*t luck.

Sell the 500 as it is, and the moeny should get you a HK 500 im sure.
