  • Trex 450 Tail Wag with BeastX

    Hi Guys,

    I’ve just upgraded my stock trex 450 sports v2 to DFC head with Beastx (AR7200BX). The heli handles well but there seems to be a small amount of tail wag. My parameter settings for the BeastX are below:

    B=Blue TX (Control Behavior)
    C=Medium Red Solid (Pitching Up Behavior)
    D=Medium Red Solid (Heading Lock Gain)
    E=3 Red Solid (Stick Deadband)
    F=Off (Torque Precompensation)
    G=Slightly increased (Cyclic response)
    H=Medium Red Solid (Pitch Boost)
    Dials=All 3 dails are set to default 50%

    Tail Servo Horn=Ball is in the middle hole.

    Dx6i Gyro Gain 0=65 which seems to reduce the wag; any low or higher affects handling.

    Any ideas on how I can workout the cause of the wag or what settings I should play around with to resolve the problem?

    Is it Dail 3 I should increased or has anyone moved the ball of the tail servo horn to the last hole to resolve on a stock trex 450?

    Are linkages smooth with binding etc mechanical side, or you may have a vibe. Tail belt loose maybe

      You say "Tail Servo Horn=Ball is in the middle hole."

      What servo DS5xx or DS4xx?

      What eventually fixed a wag issue for me was moving the ball to the inner hole, no other settings changes.

        When the heli was FB there was no wag and during the conversion I’ve not touched the tail. The tail linkage rod seems the right length and no binding on the slider.

        Before I try any mechanical changes is there any Beastx or TX settings I should try?

          St200ol,

          My tail servo is a DS420. I was thinking it may have something to do with the ball positioning.

          How do you workout whether the ball should be moved to the inner or outer hole; I read someone suggesting moving ball to outer hole?

            I had exactly this with my 450 when i put an AR7200bx on it, it turned out even with the ball on the inner most hole on the servo horn on a DS520 there was still too much mechanical gain, the answer was to drill another hole in the servo horn irc about 7mm from the centre

            You need to go nearer centre, NOT further out as this will make it worse

            hope this helps

              Hi Mark,

              the ds420 horn has 3 holes, the middle one is 7mm from centre which im currently using. Can you help me technical understand what happens if the tail gain is to high or low. I want to know if to high do i reduce the distance on rod to tail by moving ball inwards to centre or vice verua?

              Should i try tighting the links on the servo rod first to reduce distance or just move the ball closer to center which would be at around 4mm from centre.

                Right, I still consider myself a newbie to this but I think I'm right in saying the bigger the distance between the ball and the centre the more mechanical gain you have which isn't good, you need less mechanical gain which allows you to run a higher electronic gain

                Mine is now perfect at 68% on the transmitter
                I hope this makes sense

                  Thanks Mark, im going to reduce the distance on the rod and see if that helps. if it dont then ill move the ball to the hole closest to centre.

                  can anybody else check the distance between the ball and centre, just want to know if the distance could vary?

                    Hi guys,

                    thanks for the help, the problem was sorted by tighting the servo rod links a few turns to reduce the distance.

                    been out flying with it today and loving it.
