  • 450 Pro ESC location

So my build is slowly coming along and I now have to decide where to mount the ESC, initial thoughts were to sit it between the frames thus benefiting it from the main gear cooling breeze. 2nd though was to mount it to the side frame either inside or outside the frame.

Any thoughts? where have you mounted yours?

Planning to mount the Rx on the underside of the battery mount tray (I have the KDE extended tray fitted).

Considered this, will look at it again but thought the cooling would be most poor in that location... not that it should be an issue if the heatsink on the ESC is correctly spec'd

I am about to get a 450SE going and thinking about this as well.

Is there any concern about having the RX close to the motor or is that not an issue with 2.4ghz systems?

I kinda like the idea of having the RX up front either on the lower tray or upside down under the battery tray and then having the ESC either in the middle of the frames or on one side.

under teh battery tray. for a couple of reasons.
            1. its electrically close to the battery
            2. its as far away from the RX as you can get
            3. velcro straps hold the ESC and battery in place
            4. it looks tidy.
            5. theres quite a bit of airflow in there due to the fan in the main gear.
6 if you have teh KDE tray get it in thermal contact with it it will loose more heat

                1. its electrically close to the battery

true, lower losses from the wiring can only be a good thing

                2. its as far away from the RX as you can get

again a good thing and was something of a concern having the Rx close to the motor

                3. velcro straps hold the ESC and battery in place
                4. it looks tidy

                wasnt expecting this TBH

6 if you have teh KDE tray get it in thermal contact with it it will loose more heat

that is a good idea but I am not sure if this would be workable without removing the heat sink from the ESC and thermal gluing the ESC to the KDE alu mount.

You wont have any issues with under the tray at all regardless of weather it wont get that hot all my aligns E helis are under the tray affairs no issues.
The biggest bonus missing is CG move it away from under tray and you will have a head ache TT helis tail heavy at the best of times.

With an alu battery mount you shouldn't have to glue it just have it contact and it will act as a huge heat sink.

OK it seems everyone says mount the ESC under the battery tray. So what about the RX?
