  • Another 1st Crash Thread

Anyway could not resist popping into the park yesterday, was having a very nice steady flight, I did notice my blades were not tracking properly
and thought I will sort that when I get back.

So there I was doing a nice steady clockwise circuit, and the Heli sarted to slide sideways away from me, dont really know what happened next I just dumb thumbed and panicked had idel up on and dropped the throttle of course it just buried itself in the ground did a little chicken dance before I had the sense to hit the throttle hold.

    Blades snapped
    Main Shaft slightly bent
    flybar knackered
    Canopy badly marked
and a wee dent in the tail boom
Im sure the feathering shaft will be bent
and have stripped gears in 2 servo's

"Question" how the hell do you get the flybar out when its bent really bad, I cant budge mine?

Sorry to hear of the crash

I cut through mine using a hack saw and then filed it smooth to prevent bearing damage. It should then slide out of one side easily.

Don't be tempted to cut through it and then try and pull it through as it will catch on the bearing.

    Cheers

Cut mine off with a dremmel cutter then file.

If your feathering shaft is straight thats one tough shaft

Sorry to hear you've crashed - However crashing a 450 is not stupidly expensive.

Taken from an earlier post: "It's definitely worth going over the WHOLE heli. Remove all the shafts and check them. Even if they look OK, roll them along a piece of glass and be over critical. Also check any plastic parts especially gears and parts with pins through them. You may find you have damage you didn't realise."

Also check your mainshaft bearings. They are normally notchy after a crash like yours. Also the blade grip bearings, particularly the inner ones. They are a different size to earlier ones and I have found they normally take the brunt of the crash and are notchy. Make sure you replace them. I spoke to FastLad the first time I had to replace them and they told me I couldn't buy them so I spoke to Skyline and they had them.

        Hope that helps.

and with most of the parts your gonna get 2 or 3 in the pack which makes it even cheaper.

I crashed mine yesterday only cost me a main shaft and feathering spindle already had them from a previous crash so back in the air in no time,. its amazing how much punishment these little helis can take and how cheap they are to repair.

            Yep I agree.

My plastic 450 XL only had £5 worth of damage last time due to me having spares from the previous crashes

            Great Heli's for cheap crashing

Sorry to hear you put her in.
Get HS65MG servos, they have metal gears and don't strip - well not usually at any rate.
I bought a shed load of crash spares - enough to repair about eight bad ones!!!!!!

Thanks for the kind words and help.
I had most bits needed except main shaft and gears for servo's.
Im going to get the metal gears and put them in my 65HBs
I read somewhere you can replace them with metal ones
So will be back in the air soon.

                  Dave

PS: got my flybar out thanks

blimey rick youve got enought there to start a specialist shop.

since flying the 450 ive had loads of crashes, infact nearly every time I take it out, I think everything about it makes me push it harder than my skill allowes. anyway, in all those crashes so far ive only managed to strip 1 set of gears in a servo and i'm using the 65mg's, really good little servos.

Also something ive noticed and I could be tempting fate, but when I got my 450 I bought it secondhand and the guy I bought it off had fitted it with a carbon boom, and so far again ive only managed to break 1 boom which I replaced with another carbon one. It's just that I noticed everyone I know who flies them normally have ali booms and they bend in just about every crash. Just something to think about.

All back together now after lots of careful checking, and test hovered.
Only one small problem I have noticed I lost one of the canopy grommets.
Can you buy them on there own? I had a quick look but no joy?

                        Thanks
