TRex 600 carbon tail pushrod?

Hi folks

Does anyone 'do' a carbon tail pushrod kit for the T-Rex 600 electric?

I'm not keen on that piece of piano wire.

That peice of 'piano wire' is very good and can cope with a lot more that a CF rod will, it also gives the th tail serov an easier time by absorbing some of the forces from the tail. One thing Align do seem to be good at is their metal work.

But if you want a CF one then buy some 4mm CF rod and epoxy some short push rods from Quick UK in the ends - there are plenty of guides for a 22mm boom and 4mm rods available too.

I had a CF push rod on one of my helis a while ago, and it fell off in flight...... lost the tail obviously. Now the reason that it fell off was no fault of the carbon rod. There was a problem with a bearing in the tail casing which induced some vibes, which hit the resonant frequency of the carbon rod - it just vibrated into a blur and then pinged off at the ball links.

Piano wire would never have done that with 3 or 4 guides.

Thanks for the responses chaps. I might stick with the piano wire for the time being then. It just seems tricky to set up a solid straight run, through two guides that are too slack on the boom to start with.

I'm sure at some frequency the piano wire would vibrate too, or pianos would be inaudible!

It works at the moment, but requires maintenance (straightening guides out once in a while to keep the run straight-ish) and looks pants!

Biggest problem on mine was getting gain right with a CSM 720 gyro. I could wind mine up to 150% on the gain without any wag at all on the longest servo arm I could use with the standard wire and guides.

Ok, the material Align use is a 2mm steel rod, piano strings over a certain diameter are actually a coil rather than solid wire

We need to make sure we use the correct language and spelling on this site as certain users can take offence

Being a trained, talented and proficient pianist (yes, really!!) I knew that. 'Piano wire' is a colloquialism for wire we use in modelling. Even heavy undercart fixed wing legs are referred to as piano wire. No piano would use anything like that in the lower regions

I'm sure you will have seen the cable tie trick for making the guides tighter on the boom but thought is was worth mentioning in case you hadn't.

Believe it or not - my clamps were not quite loose enough to fit a cable tie through. Instead, I use just a turn of PVC electrical tape on the boom to hold them snug.

Hi Rob if you thread the thin end of the cable tie under the flat on top of the guide you can just get it through, you then need a pair of needle nose pliers to grasp the cable tie & pull the thicker part through so it jams the guide in place it will now not move as it is locked in place you could add some thick cyano to ensure it cannot move.
All you need to do now is trim the tie as close to the clamp as you can with a pair of nail scissors.
