trex 550, 600 or 700?

Guys and Gals,

I need your wisdom and advice (and I apologise if its been covered before).
In January I purchased a belt cp v2 that soon became a modded one with copter x head and rdts mod then carboned. I am noe bitten by the bud and want to buy a trex. The thing is which one?

My thoughts so far are:

700 Very big and expensive to buy and if you crash BUT as its so big its stable and ive heard bigger is better

600. Im concerned about the power requirements of en electric one and if I go ic I would also need a starter and starter batteries etc

550 I hear this is a very good heli but is it a lot smaller that the 600 or a lot bigger than the 450 size I have now?

I am not a 3g flyer and would like to perhaps go fbl. My skill level at the moment is hovering and forward flight with circuits.

any help would be appreciated

550 matey. Almost as big as the 600 but with bags of power and as most say, the best heli Align make.

I have the 600E, 550E FB and 550E FBL. The 600 I think is underpowered but nice and smooth. The 550E FB is power to weight better than the 600 but not as smooth. The 550E FBL has just been maidened with Align 3G and is smoother and looks like it is going to be my favourite. Both the 600 and 550's use similar parts. The difference being the frames, canopy, tail tube drive and Main shafts. The 700? Too expensive, twice as many batteries etc, etc. If I could afford it? I would buy a TDR. Happy choosing and safe flying of whatever is your choice.

Choosing the next heli is always tough. I started with a Logo 400 FB and this is my main heli at the moment. Sits nice and holds its own, that said I dread crashing it for fear of the repair cost. I think this in some way has held me back in my flying. So I went a bought the Protos, ok bit of an animal but cheaper to fix when it hits the ground. So I think repair cost, or as I like to think of it as ‘running cost’, has to be a factor when choosing a heli but also size is worth thinking about. We’ve had some slightly heavy winds this week and flying the Logo wasn’t much fun in that so I choose to get myself a 600 size heli to make sure the wind is less of a issue.

get yourself a cheap 450 clone (Tarot are brilliant) with good electronics. build it and set it up yourself. also buy a sack full of spares....then just learn without worrying about crash costs.

i did/do the above and have crashed my clone 7 times now (including tonight working on my inverted)....each rebuild costs about £10 - £20

GOOD decision. I flew my 550E FBL 3G for second time yesterday after updating the settings to Leon Luke's settings and they are BRILLIANT.

nice! you cant go far wrong with that choice, its the same one i made, really nice heli, loads of power and not to expensive if and when it goes in. enjoy
