  • Trex 450se V2 crashed

Im gutted ive crashed my 450 se v2 after only 25 flights, I was backing it up down my garden and heard a noise from the heli next thing the tail is spinning,
As far as i know the tail drive belt had snapped what could have caused this,
Should i have checked the tightness of the belt after a few flights with it being new
The heli crashed on my patio and also caught the table the damage is,
Canopy Blades Boom Belt and Main Shaft the feathering shaft seems fine

Thats a bummer, hope its no worse than that, A friend crashed a 450SE recently, chatting to him afterwards, had a glitch which sent it straight to the ground inverted

I've broken a belt and ripped the teeth off two other belts. On the V2 seems to be the only weak spot now they've upped the motor power

Any shop that stocks Align parts, Skyline, Midlands ect ect.

Maybe even on this site as I think Stuart does Align?

I am yet to do a belt and I am running flat out on 4S and a Medusa 3400. I have min rather loose so that if you try to make the belt touch each other (light pressure with a screwdriver) where it enters the boom the almost touch but not quite.

Well that was hard work, why does the belt seem longer when installed

I checked it, the belt is in good condition with 2 teeth missing in different placed which I think is quite good considering the amount of hard arrivals it has had in various places like long grass.

The belts stretch a fair bit from new, so you need to check them regularly on the first few flights. That might have been your problem Gazza!
After a few flights they then seem to stabilise and stay constant tension.
Once the belt is too slack and starts to climb on the teeth then rapid wear and distruction is the norm (at least it is on toothed belts 500 times larger in a 30 yard long textile machine).

I think you have hit the nail on the head there so to speak i didnt check it from the original build and i rekon it stretched then due to slack in the belt it rubbed together coz there is a slight bit fraying on 1 side of the belt,
Expensive lesson but i suppose it could have been worse

Incredibly I had a belt switch round on me.

One minute I was flying no problem, the next I was spinning uncontrollably and then I was digging holes in the ground. Inspected it afterwards and the tail blades were turning the wrong way, the only possibly explanation is that the belt became loose and somehow switched round
