Thats really odd - I wouldn't expect a major increase in friction unless you have the tension on the belt too tight - but if anything it sounds as though it was too loose if you could pinch the belt together. Are the bearings for the small belt drive gears ok ? eg does some tension on either of them move them and cause mesh binding on the main gear ?
The other problem I had with mine was I noticed white powder rapidly accumulating on the frame sides by where the main gear meshes with the tail drive gear. This was due to the one way not being in quite the right position in the main gear, and the main gear was rubbing against the tail drive gear... also worth a look I suppose ?!?

One other thought - if you run the belt too loose, it could catch on itself half way down the boom, that could possibly cause the teeth issues you saw ?

No white power for me. I recently changed the main gear. It seems 100% fine. I'm wondering if the difficulty in explaining tension is the problem. I feel like it's right now, but am worried about the extra resistance when spinning the blades with my hand. Is this not normal?

When I say resistance - it's not a lot. If I spin the main blades by hand, it turns fully ones or twice before stopping. Should they spin for ages?

Once or twice isn't as much as I would expect - I think its generally about 5 times, mine is 5-6 times....
Definately sounds like there is something wrong somewhere....

Mine spins no more than 3-4 times.

As long as with gentle pressure you cannot push one side of the belt against the other you should be fine. (You should be able to push one against the other using a bit more force though)

You'll find that as you spray the Mr Sheen (make sure its the anti static silicone version) the resistance will decrease.

Don't have the belt too tight as this can wear out bearings as well as the belt.

          Cheers

The Align bearings are known to be a bit fragile.

              I use www.modelfixings.co.uk ones.
