  • Killed a battery?

    I'm confused...
I have the CellPro 4s charger.
Put a lipo alarm on my heli, and flew...
    Landed.. all was fine.

Put the battery on the charger, and it says 3% remaining?! I flew normal, and the Lipo alarm didn't sound!

    Each cell is reporting:

    1: 3.66v
    2: 3.64v
    3: 3.67v

I thought they could go down to 3.2v before a problem happened?

I'm confused now... does that not mean that there is around 11 volts in the battery?? Which is fine?

The user guide for the (CSM) Lipo Alarm says this: "Manufacturer defaults are for 3 cells and 3.0V per cell alarm threshold. ". So why is the the charger saying I am down to 3%, even though each cell is >3.5v each?

With those reported voltages your battery will be fine. Cellpro can take a few minutes before it accurately calculates the % fuel. However, what you should be most interested in is how much charge you put back into the pack, which Cellpro also shows. From this you can calculate how much you have really used and if the pack is degrading in any way.

What setting is the lipo alarm set to and how much duration did you get from the pack?

Lipo alarm hasn't been changed, and the default is 3.2v warning. Which the cells were nowhere near, it seems.

The % isd up to 46% after 10 minutes, with 0.641 Ah added so far, and the main screen is showing 11.71v now.

      Cells are now:
      1: 3.9v
      2: 3.9v
      3: 3.9v

So it might be the Cellpro speaking - nonesence?

The % fuel indicator is not always accurate - just measure how much is put back in the pack against its capacity. If you put more than 80/85% back in then you need to reduce the flight time and/or increase the limit on the lipo guard. It could be that the voltage dropped due to the load on the battery and/or heat at the time.

Personally I only let the cells go down to a minimum of 3.4V. Let us know how much you put back in. What size is the pack and how much flight time did you get?

1.413Ah added now, 89% full, and cells at:

          1: 4.16v
          2: 4.16v
          3: 4.16v

          Seem OK?

              Right, got to 100% now.
              Says 12.61v overall...
              1:4.20v
              2:4.20v
              3:4.20v

              1.669Ah added.

How do I do the calculations to work out the actual percentage I went down to?

                (1699/2100) * 100 = 79.47%

That seems about perfect to me and 7 minutes isn't bad. Keep an eye on how much you put in each charge, now that you know roughly how much to expect to go back into the pack. If this amount starts to decrease (as well as the flight time) then the pack is degrading.

If you can, raise the voltage on the lipo alarm about 0.2 V to be on the safe side. I have found packs to loose voltage under load but then recover afterwards hence the higher reading on the Cellpro.

                Happy flying

                Andy

I'm wondering if I didn't maybe put the battery on th CellPro too soon after the flight then...

Hows your flying coming alone now Cralis?

Seen a few of your video's and you're Lama flying is perfect, just interested to see how your getting on with the Rex.

I'm gonna try and get some stick time on mine this afternoon as the weather has gone very calm.

                    Just hate crashing the bugger.
                    Cheers

Cossie, I'm doinjg a bit better. I've crashed the Trex twice now, in maybe.. 15 or so flights. A bad ratio, but both were my fault. Once, I took my hand off the cyclic stick to flick a bug off my arm, and.. crash. The second time, I forgot to pull the aerial out on the TX!

But I am still tail in hovering. Will be for a while. But flying about left and right, forward and back, up and down, and having a ball. The sim is helping, I am trying sideways hovers now, and it's coming. I can do it no probs with the Lama.

Nose in - can't even see myself doing it - ever! eh

But that's my progress so far. I think there might be some early t-rex flights in my website, listed in my sig. But that's with the training gear, and the first 5 flights or something. I'm without gear and a lot more stable.

I think you're flyings pretty good and you definitely seem quite confident, esp with the Lama.

I, when I get chance, have moved pretty quickly in some areas, and slowly in others.

The main problem I have is I just NEVER seem to get any time.

In the Sim I can do inverted hovering for ages with no problems at all. I've had a play in the field too but crashed. With the Trex I am only confident (like you) just hovering and enjoying that simple challenge.

Gonna deffo get some sim time tonight so if you fancy a bit of multiplayer on Phoenix then lets hook up

Btw I'm terribly chuffed with myself as I've actually managed to replace the broken skids on my Trex, heh. I'm no good at fixing btw
                        Cheers

Ah! Yes! Replacing skids was the first thing I had to do on my trex.. Twice in a row in two flights! I think I was landing to hard.

I then invested in some strong landing gear, and only broken them once is a silly smash... But I can recommend the stronger gear. They're.. strong.

I've had to replace my main shaft twice now. Once, solo! And I need to do it again, as my main gear in my trex has had teeth broken in it's last crash. Awaiting parts, so flying it with a few teeth missing, and it sounds awful.

The Lama is easy, I guess. Stable, and if you crash it into the wall, ceiling or even your body, it's not the end of the world. Straighten the blades, and you're up again. Lovely.. and maybe not a bad trainer for side and nose in practise... Might get another (the V4) sometime, as they are fun.

Inverted?? Naaa... I'm not even close to trying it. I get casual and do loops, but, I want to master presision flying. Low stable hovers.. landing on small objects... stuff like that - as my goal is a nice scale heli.

Phoenix multi sounds great later! Definitly tell me when you're on.

There's a set you can get which are actually super flexible, and because of this they never actually break

They'll be the next ones I buy if I have to.

I followed that thread and was interested in the way it turned out and you getting it sorted. I used to get the same help with my cars and that has taught me a lot which I hope to pass on to the heli's eventually. My problem is patience, I dont have any, but I do want it and I'm dying to build my first heli... Weird ain't I

I bought second hand when I first started flying a Hirobo XRB. I still have it and it really is an amazing heli... The only thing that bothers me is that I'm not entirely sure why it cost so much... about £280?

The competition is so much cheaper too. I think I'll charge it up some more and get a bit more indoor fun. I just alway seem to put flying off for other stuff and I shouldn't.

I'll put a post on here when I get on, will be later as gotta get the little one off, and the missus of course
