  • Trex450 SE V2 pre assembly

What is the assembly like on the head and tail of the the new 450 V2 helis, do you need to rip it down and re-do it all or have those guys in the far east done a decent Job with the thread lock and stuff.

I can't remember if I tore down and re did my 450 SE V1 when I first got it.

Now that depends on whether it was a friday afternoon/monday morning assembly!!!

If you do it yourself anyway then you have piece of mind knowing it's done!

That one is simple. If they used loctite then it'll be the wrong stuff and the screws will be soft and round off so those screws are in forever.
I just bought an ali tail case that came pre assembled and there was no loctite on any of the screws.
The purpose of far eastern pre assembly is to make sure you actually got all the parts with nothing missing, and to save on writing assembly instructions, not to actually fly!

Take a couple of bolts out and inspect, my V2 was done very well with threadlock, my old SE had none - even the swash balls came loose.

my SE V2 had no loctite on the main blade grip bolts, none on the tail hub bolts and was missing some on a few of the mixer arm screws

Mine seemed pretty good, the main grips were not loctited but everything else seems Ok,its had a good 25 flights now and nothing has worked loose

I do as always keep a very close check on things though

                Hi

As Ashley said, the spindle bolts are a must, I checked everything was tight but still had a mixer arm bolt come out at Charmouth and that was after about 30 flights so trust nothing!
Always use good quality hex drivers on the bolts in the Rex kits and not your standard crappy 1.5mm Hex key.

                Cheers

I thought that might be the response

I have been doing so much building latley (mine and others), I was feeling lazy. I will go over all the screws and re-thread lock. Still got to wait for my GY401 and AR6100 to arrive before I can start setting up, so I got time.

I always fully check my helis after every days flying down to every important bolt basically

Less regularly i do a major checkover and service, and at the field i normally give it a visual after every flight only takes a minute but its just a quick once over to see nothing has come off and i give all the mixing arms, washout arms and ball link ends a twiddle to ensure nothing is working loose

Following this practice its very unlikely that an item will go from being totally secure to failed in the duration of one flight, even less so with electrics due to lower vibration and shorter air time

As always with these small electrics though they are fiddly buggers

I had a bladegrip bolt come loose today, not a problem as it was noticed during my preflight checks but just advising owners to keep a close eye on them

I applied Loctite again and all is well

nearly had some damage do to a bolt on a new build comming out.

Completely my own fault, I had checked that they were all done up but I didnt check that the metal on metal were threadlocked, I lost tail rotor the blade holders jumped off the tail shaft.

Luckily I got it down on the skids so no harm done just a little embarisment, so my advice take it apart and then rebuild. my heli is back on the bench with me going through each and every bolt I didnt put in it personnally
                        All the best
                        Tony.

I have taken all the pre-assembled bolts out and re-thread locked them, I found some were OK and others came out easy, the only 2 I could not undo was the seesaw ones as I would of ended up rounding the screws so I think the are in for life or until I get heavy duty in removing them.

Next dilemma is no shops have HS65MG except 1, I spent most the morning phoning the big boys and most of them seem to be out of stock of some common Radix sized blades and HS65MG. I think there may be drought and hope the supply starts to flow again soon.
