  • Smash!

    Ahhh!

    The world is ending!

Came home nice and early to get a few flights in. First flight... started up, and got into a nice stable hover. Took it up higher.... about 10 meters. Very nice up here, but scared so came down back to a low hover - about a meter.

Then, got an itchy back, so while the heli was stable, I took my cyclic hand and scratched... he went upwards and back towards me, but over me... Paniced! Was heading for my bathroom window (2nd floor). Put forward, but the heli was basically nose in to me now...

And things went wrong from there. Too much forward, and down she came towards the grass... Tried to pull up, but it was a lost cause, and SMASH! Pretty fast, into the ground!

    So far:

Landing gear broken. (Ha, for once!)
    Landing skid bent.
    One blade broken off.
The plastic clip that holds the horisontal stabiliser to the tail boom broken.
One blade has a nick in it. But not sure if I need to replace. The blade folded backwards, and the blade grip dug into the blade a bit. It's a small notch out of it. Replace? Reason I ask is that for some reason, I have one spare blade.

Then, on inspection, I've noticed that the lower gear has what looks like a chip on each of the 'spokes', all in the same place. Not sure if this is normal or not. Will supply a photo later.

Accident was stupid. I don't mind crashing (well I don) when I make a flying mistake, but I think this was a real rookie one. You can't take your hands away from the sticks for ANY reason when you're a rookie.

I am so cross - it was not supposed to happen. Foolish!!

Not sure if anythig else is bent, so will replace the visible parts, and then see if she flys as stable as she was before the smash.

    Agghhh!!

    Sorry to hear this!
It could have been a lot worse - as you say, you should never take your hands off the sticks while flying...
I know it wasn't intentional, but you should never fly overhead - if something goes wrong with the heli while it's over your head, it's coming down on yer noggin!

Nicks in blade roots are a regular occurance, but it depends how bad it is (pic will help).
Check your shafts - they are most likely bent if it's gone in quite hard.

    Cheers,

Yeah, overhead would normally be a no no, but it was above me before I knew it. Bad mistake. Feel pretty bad about it. Aghh!

Trying to find camera for photos..

        Here's photos..
First is the nick in the blade.
Second is a slight chip at the end of the nicked blade.
Third - well, I think this blade is broken.
Forth is the gear with what looks like a nick, but, it's perfect on all the spokes...
Last is the unbreakable broken landing gear.

I think the gear will be fine.
I'd replace the blades (for the sake of a tenner...)
