More lipo questions..

I have a 5 cell charger and balancer for my trex 450...
Just ordered trex 600 and want to buy lipos, I understand they are mostly 6 cell 11.1volt / 4800.
Could I use 5 cell packs?
This would save me buying a new charger....

The 600 uses 6 cell 22.2 volt

I am no expert in the electrics by far but although in theory it will fly on 5s the power will be useless and the motor may draw too much out of the Lipo

Far better experienced chaps than me will be able to advise better

I see your point though but 6s chargers are not that expensive in the bigger scheme of things when going electric

Less volts = more amps = more heat and more strain on ESC and LiPo.
More volts = less amps .... blah blah...

The chargers are not the bit that costs the money, it's the LiPos - if you buy 5s packs you'll have an underpowered heli and only end up buying 6S packs and a new charger soon after anyway.

There are a few good chargers with balancers coming out at the moment which look reasonably priced.

I've started using the ThunderPower 1010 charger with their 10s balancer, a bit expensive but I'm very impressed with it so far - I do like a screen on my chargers which is why I've not gone FMA yet.
