  • What do you do with yours ????

    Hi guys,

I’m a little concerned about my Lipo protection and over discharging them .I was wandering if I could get some advice from other T-Rex 450 owners on what you use and do.

Q1. What types of Lipo alarm are you currently using and how well do you feel it works.

Q2. I’ve heard flyers saying I only discharged 60% of my batteries on six minutes flight. What tool are you using to find out how much of the batteries power you used.

Thanks for your time in advance.

I started out on electrics and set the ESC cut off voltage to high so the LiPo was never in any danger, you get a feel for the heli after a while and soon know when the pack is low.

I now time all my flights and keep an eye on how much goes back in the pack, both the 450 and 600 are set to 5.5 mins and I put 3800ma in the big 5000 packs and 1600ma back in the 2100's from the Trex 450
    Clones are bad

    .... that includes Align ones

I do the same, lipo alarms for me are a last resort. Flight timing is the best option.

IVe two warnings on my 450 the first is a buzzer/led that goes off once the voltage of the pack has passed a preset level, I got it here

          http://customidea.com/shop/product_i...roducts_id=102

the second monitors each cell in the pack and it measures the lowest cell voltage, once it gets there it pulses the motor and eventually will shutdown the motor to protect the lipo. Its the discharge protection.

to be honest now I know roughly how long I get I time my flights and seldom hear the buzzer and I have never had the motor shutdown on me I then use the cellpro4 to charge them, which imho is the best charger for these size packs.
          All the best

I use cali30's 'Watts Up' meter to check how much go's back in to my packs (they are nimh packs but he use's lipo's and it works just the same) they are a realy usful tool, as you can connect them to the heli as well and see all manor of info such as Max current drawn, min voltage, peek power used, and how much has been discharged from the pack in m.a.h. Then you can connect it in between the charger and the pack and monitor the same thing's. Useful and not hideously overpriced (about £40 i think) but even better if you can nick somebody else's

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

            And a DX8 too

my charger tells me how much its put back in and from there you can do the maths and work out wha you average flight times should be
