  • Trex 600 and FP 4900

Need some guidance guys- Did a 6min flight today, mostly lazy eights and hovering(too windy to risk FFF !!!)- put battery back on charge -(Thunderpower1010 and TP 210 inline balancer)- Total charge time was 1hr 58mins and 2197mah put into lipo-this was at 1.5C charge rate, Does this mean I can extend my flight time to maybe 9mins max?? The 6min flight only used 1/2 the pack's capacity and implys that I'am well under the 80% rule- PLEASE tell me if this is so!!...
    Thanks,lenny..

      Hi,

If you charged it at 1.5C it should of taken less than an hour, or do you mean you charged it at 1.5A?

If you are going by the 80% rule you could use about 3920mAh of a 4900mAh pack.

      Simon.

Reason the charge takes so long is I was advised to charge at the slow rate for the first 10 charges(now done 5 ), First charge at 1C took over 3hrs !!- Since upped the charge rate to 1.5C and takes under 2hrs to fully cahrge..

I know I can up the charge rate so it can be done in 45mins but I don't want to kill the lipo's yet( first crash will do that )..

          Hi,

Your not charging at 1C then, 1C charge would be charging a 4900mAh pack at 4.9A which would take a about 1hr if it was very flat.

          Simon.

Are you sure it doesn't say C=1.5A

KIN hell!!- you're right- it does say C=1.50A If THATS the case, what rate should I charge at that won't kill my cells and can I extend my flight time accordingly?

Charging them at 1C won't kill them at all, 4900mAh pack would be 4.9A and you won't be waiting hours for a pack, just take the first few flights easy on the packs and don't use more than 80% 3920mAh of the packs capacity and they will be fine.

                  Simon.

Thanks dude- forgot to mention I've actually got 6 lipo's for my 600 and TWO charging rigs of TP1010 and TP 240-long charge rates don't bother me !!!!

                      I charge mine at 1/2 C (2450mAh) when I'm at home and 1C (4900mAh) down the field
                      Cheers Matt

When I was 'running in' my 600 and batteries flights were gentle hovers and circuits and a 5 minute flight used 2000mAh out of the pack, since then I now get through 80% of the pack in around 5:30! As long as you are inside the 80% the length of the flight doesn't matter.
