  • Video diagnosis?

Yesterday, I spun the heli up. This was down outside. No intention to lift, but wanted to maybe get light on the skids and drift a bit.

But, as soon as it started getting light, it fell over onto it's side, and smashed the blades....

The problem I though, were my servo mixing were all wrong. They indeed were. So thanks to loads of guys help, they seem to be right now.

So I attempted to spin up again today. But, it looks like the same thing will happen! Attached video with narration.

Can you see why this is happening? Seems to want to tip onto it's right side when the RPM gets high...

Also, just noticed, I've got CHICKENPOX!!!

Hi Craig think you need to add right trim to aileron seems to me thats your problem.

      That is normal.

Caused by the tail rotor keeping the tail in line against the torque of the blades. As you lift off there is always a desire for the heli to go left and hence tip over. so as you lift into hover you apply a bit of right cyclic to control this. I would suggest before you go any further getting a training undercarriage which will give you a bit more time to see this happening and correct

Training gear is in the post. Might arrive today, but probably Monday.. with my luck.

        Glad it looks normal though.

And the tail shudder at the start?

I would say that is just the main blades straightening out thats all

It all looks normal. I second the training undercarriage!

One other thing... It looks like you're in your front room. You could be suffering from turbulance from your own main rotor which might not be helping! A nice calm day outside and the heli will probably feel a lot different!

Also, its a definate no no starting one of these things in the front room!!!

The consequences could be very bad. I,ve seen first hand what a Trex blade will do to a solid lump of wood. If that was any of your soft and squishy parts..........or worse the TV..etc...etc

              Sorry. Not trying to lecture.

              Cheers

Looks like tail rotor thrust offset to me, it is something that all helis with a conventional tail rotor suffer from. Get a training gear!

                  Oops, I'm in trouble then!
Didn't hit anything during indoor setup but it was very scary the first time it comes off the carpet with the headspeed on the naughty side of 2500 RPM

The big problem is there is usually no where to run should things go wrong.

Suppose you could dive behind the sofa

Believe me, I thought the Trex was reasonably tame until I saw what the blades can do to solid wood

Got to agree spinning it up in a room don't give you much room for escape.

also while your checking all your servo orientation, make sure you check your gyro too. if its the wrong way your gonna get it spinning outa control.
                      All the best

Will not ever try fly inside with that thing. Can't believe the speed the blades go. I'm used to the Lama V3!! hehe

its fairly normal... becomes instinctive with experience, you've got start flying it before she lifts off.. once in the air it'll hover with one skid slightly low
                          cheers Lee

If it ain't broke fix it until it is

mirroring what most have said... looks all normal to me. Its a right hand rotating heli so it will take off to the left, hence the right skid lifts first.
