  • Red flashing light on GY401?

I have managed to get the ESC programmed to the way I'd like it. It's installed. Throttle connected and working.
Trying to work on the gyro now. When I power it, it just flashes red. Any idea what this could be? If I add left or right rudder on the Tx, the tail rotor moves. But when I shake the heli, the tail stays still.

    Any ideas?

Did you read the gyro instructions?
What did you set the gain (ch5) to on your Tx?
Did you turn it on in HH or normal mode?
Did you wait for the gyro to initialise before moving the heli?

The gyro needs to be powered up in HH mode & left for about 10 secs to initialize.

Then it should show a steady red light. Flashing means it's in non-HH mode.

May have been set up in non-HH mode
Maybe rudder input given before the 10 secs - leave it alone
Maybe you have some trim set into the Tx - zero trim

Really mate - get some local help (club) it will pay dividends in set up, crash avoidance.

I've set my gyro to 70, but see here:

        http://www.hitecrcd.com/Support/How%...ro%20setup.pdf

It says 0-50 is Standard Mode, while 51 to 100 is HH mode. Still have a red flashing light though..

like david says - it a) needs powering up in HH mode and b) musnt be moved untill its initialised. Not doing either of these will cause the light to flash.

Also if you adjust the rudder trim, the light will start flashing.

I've it it to 64 now... Still flashing. Seems to flash rapidly for the first second, then one flash per second after that forever...

              Trims all flat.
              Not moving heli while flashing.
              Not touch Tx.
I assume it's in HH mode. Can't seem to see what the little buttons and dials ON the Gyro should be set to..

I notice that when I power on, I can hear the tail servo cricking away as if it's doing something. No momement on the tail, but it seems to servo is moving ever so slightly, all the time. That is even when I am not touching it.,,..

                  Here's my gyro..
                  Settings are:

                  DS: On
                  Dir: Nor
                  Delay: Either 55 or 5
                  Limit: Either 95 or >140.

                  Are those all right?

what channel do you have the remote gain plugged into?
and what are the end points set at on this channel?

digi servos will buzz a little, its just impatient waiting for an input

with a digi set delay to zero.

your end points on the rudder channel = piro rate in each direction

With the 9650 servo the delay should be fully CCW i.e. zero.
DS - correct, the 9560 is a digital servo.
DIR - could be either way depending on how the servo is mounted (Mine is NOR)
Limit - Sound right (mine is about the same)

                      So far - so good.
                      Cheers, Lee.

AND, reversing the channel (5) just makes the gyro sit on a steady RED light.

                        Which, seems to be right!

the end points atv on channel 5 determine if you selected avcs or normal
and the amount of gain in each mode.

Left with a few issues. OK, I have a red stable light, but when I move the tail about, the tail rotors do not move much... Definitly not as much as finless's does...

Also, if I push rudder on the Tx, the tail blades move to one side on the rod, but when I let go the stick, the blades don't always seem to return to center on the rod. Is that normal?

Also, went to check if the gyro is trying to hold the tail. Nope. Powered just enough and the tail started coming around anti clockwise.... That was at low RPM.
