  • Align Speed Controller

I have just watched the Finless video on programming the Align speed controller.

I have the 35A ESC. Not sure whihc 'revision'. It's been sent to get a new connector attached.

I didn't quite understand how to go into Programming mode. Is it just a case of putting full throttle, and then powering up the ESC?

Anyone know where I may be able to download the manual for this?

My understanding is that there are 4, maybe 5 settings.

    1. Break.
Not sure what that does, but possibly something to do with cutting the engine for some reason? Finless says leave it disabled for helis.

    2. Timing.
Again, not sure what that is, but will leave Mid.

    3. BAttery Protection.
Again, not sure. Says to leave at 65%.

    4. Govenor.
Finally, what's that!? I heard one of the options is 'Soft Start'. Seems like the safest bet for a novice. Slowly spins up? Then theres Soft Start with Govenor. He (Finless) says to not use the govenor. Why, and what is the govenor?

    5. Throttle responce. (Maybe only on newer models)
Going to set that to low. Don't need the kicks, as will be doing hovering.

Could someone maybe help with the meaning of all these, and best settings? Also, is there a PDF manual anywhere?

    THanks guys.

yes put tx to high throttle and power up this will enter prog mode.
it will play a tune to let you know your in prog mode.
then it will bleep once.... this is step one and you move throttle stick to low
    position (1) brake dissabled.
it will bleep once a couple more times...then bleep twice this is step two, put stick to high position(3) for high timing (high power).again couple more bleeps,
then it will bleep three times, step three.set to mid position (2) (low voltage protection) again repeats three bleeps then....four bleeps. stepfour select (1)airplane mode or (2)soft start heli.(you choose)then 4 bleeps a couple more times,
then five bleeps select (3) high stick this is fast response couple more 5 bleeps then done,

dis connect power ,set tx to lowthrottle then power back up, the esc will power up then run through its settings by a sequence of bleeps.
showing the 5 options you selected.

    make sure throttle curve is 0 25 50 75 100 and end points at 100 %.
and motor pinion dis engaged( this is the legal bit )for setting up

the gov mode on the align esc is known to pi$$ off your gyro so dont use it.

The governor sets attempts to keep the head speed constant. so when governor is active you adjust your throttle curve at zero/slight negative collective until the hlei is doing say 2200 rpm. Then yuo set the thottle curve flat at that. So yout nromal curve ends up at 0,80,80,80,80 for example.
when you apply the pitch the ESC puts in more throttle to keep the revs constant all by itself.
for the governor to work well you need to be at 80% or above as below that the gov doesn't work well on the align ESC. so you need to select a motor pinion so you have the right head speed at over 80% on the ESC with governor active.
The governor can start hunting, creating a wobbly speed and then that changeing torque on the rotor has to be controlled by the gyro to keep the tail still.
Some people find the tail hold is a lot better by using a conventional throttle curve rather than running the governor.
I had an align 25A ESC and the govenor worked well - but 25A was not enough to run higher head speeds.
