  • Joining a club

    Hiya guys.

I went to visit a local flying club. It's really small. Just a field (rented from a farmer) with a small housing for the mower they have, and that's it. Quaint, but the old guys that fly there seem really good and helpful. (I've offered to redo their 'interesting' website for them... http://www.kinrossmodelflyingclub.com/)

I need to join the BMFA. What benefits do I get with my membership? Is insurance included? Also, I need to do my bronze test. Is this very difficult for a novice?

Is it worth joining a flying club? I think it mwould be as I can ask questiopns, and learn from the boys who know their stuff.

Yes, join the BMFA. Don't ask why, just do it. Yes, it includes insurance.

That club doesn't look particularly heli-friendly from their website, but you could go along and test the water - try before you buy.

Went this morning, and all of ther plane guys have helis too. Bigger than my 450. They have 600 sized, but they are petrol. Didn't see the make though. When I take over the site, I'll make it more heli friendly.

Went to the club field today - managed 2 flights because the rain was so awful.

Despite that, had a great morning, standing around in the rain around a fire talking utter rubbish to my mates, watching the foolhardy get soaked.

If they are petrol (gasser) then they are usually rather big.
Petrol are very cheap to run, but size makes build and spares very expensive.
Maybe the gassers are of gereat appeal to the scottish?
more likely they are .50 glows...

A hut at the field? Wow! that is a luxury well equipped set up!

Clubs are the best things ever. Since my day at a new club on Saturday I'm thrilled. The help on offer was amazing, and free. The support when things went wrong was brill, and the encouragement was top notch.

All heli flyer's but most have a few planks to play with too.
              Cheers
