  • Boom slipping !?

My carbon boom keeps slipping in the 500 and loosening the belt. Its so bad that recently I can't take off ! I have tried cleaning and sanding the boom/boom block, as well as using clingfilm on the boom. Neither have helped. The problems only started 30 or 40 flights after getting a carbon boom. I thought clingfilm would work, as I did it as thick as I could, with it still sliding inside the boom block.

Any help would be appreciated. I am thinking of removing the carbon boom and putting the old alu boom back in. Seems a shame though if there is an easy fix.

Two turns of clingfilm made it hard to insert the boom in the block. I could try x6 of insulation tape and use a screwdriver to open up the block while I push the boom in? I want to fly today, so might try a self tapper in the boom to stop it sliding tighter.

sellotape/insulation tape/masking tape. Or try some hot glue ive heard that works quite well. It wont make the boom non removable too as its quite easy to peel off.

I had a similar problem on the 450. After advice from this site I purchased another tail servo clamp and placed that against the boom clamp. When tightening the belt I tighten the clamp first then the boom clamp - its easy and works very well.

It used to be a common problem with larger machines a few years back.

The standard mod was to put a small PK (self tapper) screw through the boom holders, so that it just penetrated the boom. (Not too far, or it will damage the belt!)

Also just to add, if you are going to self tap screw the boom, make sure you drill a clearance hole in the carbon boom, the carbon wont strech like ali, its too brittle and will crack.
