  • trex 550 dfc main shaft extremely tight fit into one way bearing shaft?

Fitted a new main gear to my 550 and the mainshaft is virtually impossible to fit into the one way bearing shaft within the maingear, I can get it in outside the heli, with force, whereas in the heli, Im struggling to get it to fit all the way down. I could possibly but 1. It shouldn't really be that hard should it? 2.im practically knackering the maingear trying to push heavily down on it.
It did crash from about a foot up in the air onto its side when something went nuts on the heli, but thought it wouldn't have bent the main shaft or bearing shaft? neither look bent tbh. any ideas? TIA

i would be checking that main shaft very carefully. i would also double check the alignment of the bearing blocks.

    That definately isnt right.
If it is not damaged try freezing the main shaft to enable a better transition fit.

No it shouldnt be that difficult to fit. How was the fit on the original build? So it's JUST the main gear changed? Seems unusual, there isn't a lip or bur on the main shaft preventing it from sliding in is there?

Its not right is it, the blocks look aligned fine, will check the mainshaft tomorrow.

I bought it from someone on here, it all looks fine tbh that's what baffling me, the main gear was stripped after the crash, the mainshaft may be slightly bent? and its not going into the bearing sleeve straight? maybe slightly at an angle?, only thing I can think of.

The heli is using a v2 main gear, with the dfc head/frames.

Could it be a bad one way bearing?

loosen both blocks and push the main shaft through, rotate the shaft till it moves freely then retighten the screws pull the shaft back enough to get the main gears in.loosen the motor and insert the oneway with main gear .you may also have to loosen the tail gear block.

Is it the same one way bearing as was in the crash? If so perhaps you have done some damage to it? The shaft should fit in with relative ease.. any force to push it in means its either bent or bearing are out of alignment or shot lol.

If its tight when trying to put the shaft in the owb outside the heli, then it is not shaft alignment causing the issue. As previous posts the fact you can get it in with a lot of effort, I would say that the owb is bad most likely. Also double check the main shaft for burs or even bruising, but I still would look at replacing the owb.
Mine goes in perfectly on my 550 DFC v3 as it should.

trex 550 dfc main shaft extremely tight fit into one way bearing shaft?

I would 100% change the main shaft after any crash, especially with a side impact. I have never crashed and got away without replacing the main shaft.
(Other than a minor spill in TH) As others have said, check the bearing blocks, its possible they are running out of true. It sounds though that the alignment issue is down to a bent shaft and the fact it won't go into the one way says it needs replacing. If a new shaft won't go in than you have your answer, you will need a new owb
