  • It had to happen sooner or later...

I have been flying my 600N for 4 months and have got through 12 gallons of fuel without any crashes. Everything was going great on Saturday. I started flying inverted (fairly high up though) and was getting my flips, loops and rolls down pat.

Unfortunately I was getting a bit cocky and ended up mowing my heli into the ground...

    The damage is fairly extensive:

    Main blades
    Canopy
    Main shaft
    Main shaft bearings
    Feathering shaft
    Flybar
    Main grip bearings
    Boom
    Torque Tube
    Both Frames
    S9451 Servo
    Landing skids
Front and Rear Torque Tube gears
    Tail Rotor shaft
    Tail rotor grip shaft
    clutch housing bearings
and probably a couple more things I haven't spotted yet...

So I am thinking about buying a whole new kit for use as spares, as it is not that much more expensive, and it would be nice to have a complete head etc as a spare.

    C'est la vie,

Mate, Just re-build it and count yourself among the hundreds who have also ditched their beloved helis..

Good luck in the future, No one likes to see them looking like this.

That's a heartbreaking sight mate & a depressingly long list....Certainly with a list that long then a new kit is the only option

Are you gonna repair the casualty with bits from the kit or just build the kit & start afresh?

I had a couple of near misses today too...Infact, I do most flights I'm getting used to it now!
      Cheers,

Damn, it is a shame to see them like that. I also have a 600n pro and managed to break the front gears this weekend, I caught the tail blades when practicing my first auto's, managed about 4 or 5 then bang went the gears

Out of interest where did the side frames go, I can't see damage on then in the photo's?

Hope you get it back in the air soon.

Which is why I never practice Auto's I've done it when I've needed to that's good enough for me

            Hi Simon

Ouch!! That looks a bit poorly

Get it fixed and get yourself back in the air ASAP. Look on the bright side, you've done a hell of a lot of fuel and made fantastic progress

Have a look in the classifieds - see if you can pick up a 2nd hand airframe maybe?

            All the best,
            Cheers, Lee.

I have had two harsh landings before, where I have stripped the gears for the TT. Same thing, also messing around with auto's

Gazza, It would be lovely to start fresh, with a brand new heli... but I fear that all my used bits will be discarded. I think I will just pick and choose what I need and leave the rest as new spares.

The right frame broke on the header tank mount (as I slammed the heli on its right side). Both frames broke on the bottom rear corner of the fuel tank. I think I am going to buy that Align Frame Brace Kit for my new heli, hopefully I can save a frame or two.

Cheers Lee! Yeah, you have seen me from the very beginning and it has been brilliant fun all along. And am loving it more than ever now

Finally finished rebuilding my heli tonight! What a job! Found two more broken items.... One tab on each of two servos was broken off. Geez, this crash has cost me a small fortune. If I end up crashing like this again anytime soon, I may have to forget about heli's and switch to Zagi's

When i plowed one of my helis , i worked it out the bits where near enough a new kit so i stirpped the good bits offa the old one as spares and got a new one lol ... But all the servo tabs where ok , but i still checked each servo for anything wrong with em ... Had a servo fail on one of my planks last week so will be checking alot more now when i fly lol

                      Hi Simon
As Ron says, give the servos in question a good look over - inside and out. Tags sometimes break due to the frames twisting and deforming in a crash which in turn can twist / compress the servo cases, possibly damaging the gearbox or electronics.
Best find out on the ground if they are intermittant or about to fail rather than in the air
It's potentially especially bad as the weekend weather is looking nice and I know you'll want to get that baby up in the air again ASAP!
                      All the best,
                      Cheers, Lee.

                        Thanks Lee,

Unfortunately I saw your message too late. I already flew early this morning. Luckily no probs so far (other than a leaky header tank....aaargh so many broken things).

Two servo's had broken tabs, one is a cyclic 9451... which is now dead. So I took the 9451 off the throttle and used it as a replacement for the bad one. I bought a 3050 for the throttle, which I think is good enough. The other servo that had the busted tab was the rudder. I replaced the top of the case but didnt really check the gears. I guess I should take it out and check the gears properly.

                        Thanks for the advice

                          Man that's one sad sight.

I can't imagine how gut wrenching that must have been.

Its not the greratest feeling in the world watching your lovely heli smash into ther ground.

I did the same with my new T-Rex500 only a month ago but as quoted get the replacement bits and re-build it ASAP.

On the upside seeing the crashed heli re-built and flying again is a warm and glowing feeling, The only thing lacking is a little confidence until you get going again.

Best of luck and enjoy your flying again.
