  • Canopy paint ??????

Anyone know if it's possible to paint the standard canopy that comes with
the 600sport G10 ??- it feels like washing up material and I'am not sure what paint to use,,, or can I use a decal set instead- similar to the one's you can get off fleabay for raptor bodies( may have to adapt to fit)..........

This stuffs great for plastic canopies, once it's on it won't come off easily even when bending the plastic in 2. http://robotbirds.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=103_130

Or you could get a tin of plastic primer from halford's and use normal acrylic spray although I don't know how either would stand up to fuel as I've only used the styro paint on leccy's so far.

or a better alternative is to buy one of fiberglass canopies trexmad has prepainted for 21 quid. you will spend that on paint anyway. please note thats the align sticker pack if you want it to look exactly like that. i think thats an extra 4 quid or so unless you haven't used the kit ones already.

              Hi everyone,
It's very difficult to paint a non-fibreglass canopy because the polypropylene contains a type of lubricant. I always go for fibreglass. I have heard that carefully heating up the plastic canopy releases the lubricant but I've not tried it.

I personally use water based Auto Air paint for my work.

              Hope this helps.

              Regards

ive tried painting a few plastic canopys and even with plastic primer it is not very successful. the plastic flexes and the paint cracks and flakes off. also the nitro makes normal laquers go sticky.(i believe two pack auto paint is the only way around this bit)

See my above post, that paint is specifically designed for styrofoam products and is great on plastics, with a coat of fuel proofer it should be fine. I have actually done my zoom ic canopy with it as you can see in my gallery but due to not being able to get parts it has only had a couple of flights. So far no effects from the fuel or remains.
