  • top Jesus bolt

I am building a 600n and wanted to know how tight to tighten the top Jesus bolt because if I tighten it up the washout binds when it gets towards the top of the shaft and if I leave it loose there is play in the head
please help this is my first build

This is a tough one to help with without having a look at the heli. I had a 600E and never came across this problem.

Is it possible you have over tightened it already? It really needs to be tight enough so that the head block clamps onto the shaft if its not tight enough then the head could start wobbling and wearing away.

I usually tighten bolts like this up with an L type wrench and have my thumb about 2inches up from the end for leverage. Knowing how tight to make something just comes from experience I'm afraid. I think Minature Aircraft as Xcell used to give figures for torquing major parts down but no one else ever has that I know off.
The man that has never crashed a heli has never flown a heli.

thanks for that I have not over tightened the bolt but I have had a look with a magnifier and the pins on the bottom of the rotor head although looking straight seem to catch the washout as it slides upwards when it is tight and pulls that little tiny bit needed to hold it to the main shaft

Sounds like some fettling is needed,
        what are your options:-

Work the hole in the washout block, you could with a drill bit (apply side pressure) try to slot the hole a bit.

Try to bend the pin so its parallel with the mainshaft (the pins are hardened & quite brittle so be very careful)

        File/or sand the pin down.

Or You could ask the shop you bought it from to sort it.

        Tim.
