If your budget allows, the 500 is a great heli. It is just enough bigger than the 450 size helis to be a lot more stable and handle wind much better as well as having more presence in the air for visibility. But it's still small enough that crash costs are low, Lipos are not expensive etc. So in general it's a great choice.Kasama, Minicopter, Henseleit, JR, Shape, Beam

My path was...blade sr which I kept crashing, so went 120sr which didn't like much wind.. Then went 4503d which I was terrified of, so bought an mcpx. Kept crashing that so had a break for a couple of months!
Went back to mcpx...yay, I can hover it!
Bought some really decent training gear for 450 and gradually got it higher off the ground and hovering.
In the meantime, had the opportunity to get a trex 500...built it and love it to bits. Used decent training gear for quite a while, then once I could land softly, took it off.
I love it, just lifts straight off vertically. Beautiful.
Now I have more confidence with 450 and I'm even going to fix my SR and fly that.
500 is gorgeous....just only fly within your capability and take it easy.
I made the mistake of going out of my comfort zone and crashed the other week, but it too bad.

500 fbl or fb are a nice size heli for starting out & can be easily setup for first time flyer through to the big 3D flyers so defo my thumbs up for choice.Today's outlook is fine for flying.- Spektrum DX18 gen2, Phoenix Sims, Align MR25XP.

I used this on my 450

And the same but larger on the 500

You're welcome to borrow either. Heli clamps to the gear and the gear swivels. Legs are fibreglass and bouncy, so they absorb the shock of a hard landing.
Just gave me enough confidence to learn how to land softly - once I had that sorted, I chose a calm day and just practised landing as softly as I could.
I do want them back though as my son will use them some day and they were both about £50 from a guy in Utah .
