Well today I wanted to test the Hatori 522 and MP5 pipes back to back.

I did half a tank with the Hatori as it was on form, I then switched to the MP5 and after a few minutes the engine cut out in flight causing the heli to come in hard but level. The damage was 1 front landing strut and a few teeth on the torque tube, the machine was still flyable though. I started to investigate the engine cut and found the engine running very lean and very hot, I got the main needle out 4 turns but still running extremely hot???????
After investigating I noticed some orange stuff in the fuel filter which was clogging the line, I then realized the fuel magnet had fallen apart, so after cleaning the tanks and lines I was back doing my testing. After few flights and tuning I was in the middle of a stall turn when the torque tube drive gave up resulting in a pretty nasty crash. I was in 2 minds about getting rid of this heli but after the crash I have decided to break it.
The damage to the heli is both side frames, torque tube front gear, tail grip links, base plate, 1 main blade, flybar.

I am gong to sell the damaged airframe and all my spare together and sell the servo, gyro/tail servo, engine with pipe, cyclock, 2 in 1 regulator and battery pack separately. I will list the items soon.

I then realised the fuel magnet had fallen apart
Bit late now but Helihead (Graeme) done 3 engines because the foam broke apart..

Advised to change every 3 months to him.. and get a larger bore clear in line filter if using one so its filtered both side as it seems the exhaust gases kill the foam..

Did you refill the tank straight after flying it?
I've been doing this without any issues (so far!!)
                Cheers,

Always made sure the tank was half fill after a days flying, don't matter now as I have stripped the heli and will be breaking it for parts.

I realise it's a moot point for you now mate, but just for other's benefit - the tank should be refilled after every flight to get the exhaust gasses out of the tank, as they break the foam down.

                    Cheers,

That seems to go against everything you've always been told about your heli fuel tank doesn't it. Why I've stuck with standard klunks, seems like an accident waiting to happen if you don't keep a tight eye on them...

I got another 2 50s so it is no biggy.

I went with the fuel magnet to stop the engine leaning as the tank went down but it did not do the job so I left the magnet in there and added a header tank which sorted it.

                            Chain of events
The problems started with engine problems due to the fuel flow which lead to a hard landing which lead to mechanical tail failure in flight which lead to a written off heli.

My fault really as I knew the tail gear was damaged but still working (at the time), it is a risk I took.

My heli was leaning out when inverted and the clunk line was struggling to pick up every dreg of fuel under harsh manouevres. I'm now using fuel magnet, header tank and csm smart carb... The fuel magnet solved the leaning out in harsh manouevres and let me use the full tank of fuel. Have used the fuel magnet for nearly 4 gallons now and am keeping an eye out for any signs of things going wrong...
