  • Fuel consuption for a 700N sizes heli?

    Hi,

I´m after a 700sized heli but although I´d prefer electric, since there are better deals (2nd hand) on nitro due many people swapping to electric, I´m considering the possibility of going nitro.
Could anybody please let me know approximately fuel price and fuel consumption for a 700sized heli? I have no clue about those figures and they´re important in order to compare prices against 700E helis.

What about flying times? Are they longer than electric?
What about performance wise? Is still nitro in front of electric?

What about FBL? Is it as noticeable as in Electric helis?

    Cheers and thanks in advanced!

I have a Trex 700LE nitro standard align tank on it you get 5 flights per gallon approx, cost of a gallon of 20% Optifuel which I use circa £22 thats it

Too many questions, but here's a few answers.

90 size electrics have more power than 90 size glow. 'They' say that this difference is minimal if you stick a 120 engine in your 90 size glow model.

90 size glow helis fly for about 8-10 minutes on a tank of 20% nitro fuel. You'll get 6 or 7 tankfuls out of a gallon, but be careful of UK and US gallons - UK gallons are significantly bigger than US gallons. A gallon of 20% nitro will cost you about £22 ish in the shops.

90 size lecky helis fly for 6-8 minutes on a pack and the packs are £150 ish a go. You also need a decent charger, and either (a) several packs if you want to fly all day, or (b) a generator system at the field for the same.

The fuel costs are a moot point really, pros and cons of both. If you spend £500+ on batteries, chargers, generators etc for your 90 size heli, then they can be moved from one heli to another, but when you are flying, you've got a lot of investment up there in the air. They perform well and don't need tuning. Nitro engines take less preparation really to fly - an hour or so's charging at home, a gallon fuel and you're good to go for a day's flying.

A lecky heli will slowly loose power during the flight as the battery fades. A nitro heli performance will get better during the flight as the tank empties and the model gets lighter.

I couldn't have put that any better Steve, nice one

I would add that its entirely a personal choice. I love nitro and have no issues taking a baby wipe and 10 seconds to wipe the gunk off the airframe, some people detest it, that's their choice. Whatever you decide on, buy your fuel of choice and enjoy it

Thanks everybody for the answers (I agree I asked too much... )

By a gallon you guys mean 4,5Litres?? A 700/90 size heli drinks 4,5L/h??? I´m impressed...

What about the engine lifespan? How long it lasts without maintenance?

And lastly, what would you prefer a Blitz Avro N 90 Size or a Trex 700N? Both 2nd hand at the same price
            Thanks for your answers!

enigne wise if you run lean it will break
the engine bearings will from time to time require replacing

and avro v 700n is up to you
              the avro is better engineered
the 700 will cost less to repair

if it was my cash i'd have the avro but many on here would have the 700

Before looking at spare prices, the feeling I get is that crashing the avro will be a lot more "painfull"...
I could close my eyes and think that I´m not going to crash, but I think crashing in this hobby is a fact...

Opti is a full 5 litres, and I used to get 7 tanks out of it.

The tank is listed as 630cc in Align's spec sheet.

it doesn't matter what heli it is you just need the balls to fly it
be it a cheapo ebay heli or a £20,000 turbine heli
my club mates couldn't beleave what they were seing when i went inverted with my turbulence
saying what happens if you crash it?
and the reply was repair it
its the same with my vario r22 they expected it to just hover not fly above the tree tops

its not nice to crash any heli but its a fact that at some moment in time most heli's will crash or have a hard landing

                          Hi,

When people say the 700E is more powerfull than the 700N, I don´t know if that´s with top quiality lipos only or Turnigy/Zippy would be enough to perform the same or more than the nitro version.
                          Anybody could confirm that?

                          Cheers!
