    BTW TRexMad, I was doing back tumbles at about 10ft high last Sunday and still ran out of fuel. Lowest auto I've had to do it ages.

            Is this a joke? I asked about a clunk in the header tank a few days ago here: http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/showthread.php?t=8571 and was basically told I should have one??? Yes or No to a clunk in the header?

              Headers are used as a 'fat' part of the fuel line to prevent bubbles getting to the carb. Without one in a long nose-down manoeuvre air can be drawn into the fuel line. If the fuel line in the header is in the centre of the tank then half the tank would have to be full of air before drawing it to the carb.

              Some use headers to extend flying time by running the main tank dry. Could never see the point to this. It's like saying no matter which heli I buy the main tank is never big enough.

                Thanks Phil, this is what I thought, I have not intention of running the main tank dry and running on the header, for me the header tank was only fitted to stop the air getting in the fuel line. So as long as I'm careful not to run the main tank dry I should just put a bit of short pipe running into the centre of the header.

                  You can still run it dry but you will have only half the header worth of fuel before it'll draw air.

                  People don't think about air going into the header going to the carb as they think as long as the header has fuel it can't. With a clunk as soon as enough air is in the header and the heli's nose is pointing to the floor the clunk (that will almost certainly be in air at the back of tank) will draw air.

                      A clunk or even the tubing in the header is not technically needed ( a great way is just a short stubby length of tube that sits in the middle of the header tank) as your supposed to have it full of fuel with no air gap.....all the time not to be used as a reserve!! or you run into the same problem as the main tank with the feed line drawing in air rather than fuel. Its a bubble trap only and not a reserve tank!

                      You land when your main tank is empty or just before.

                      Or do without the header and fit a fuel magnet in the main tank, quicker to fit than a header tank as well.....

                        I don't have a clunk on the fuel line in the header as I'm using it to keep air away from the carb.

                        I sometimes fly till the main tank is empty if I'm having too much fun.

                          Sorry, I say clunk it. I know when I hit the header tank as it leans out a little and I know from then that I'm upright and on the way to the pits in most cases. If I hit the header while inverted when I flip the clunk stands far better chance staying in the fuel than with no clunk.
