  • Trex 500EFL PRO FBL 3GSX

I have set up the collective and cyclic pitches as per the manual and have two problems. One is the common tail wagger on lift off and at the same time the heli jumping to the left.

I have a Spextrum DX6i and have tried various gain settings in the transmitter, servo arms are at 90 degrees and tail control is at centre. 3GSX is mounted on Align anti vibration tape and have tried doubling up on this, but still will not stop the tail wagging. Even tried setting up the 3GSX for a smaller heli. Anybody have thoughts, maybe software setup on the PC change would help, if so what do I change.

I am not sure it is common. At the weekend two 500EFLs took to the air and neither had a hint of a tail wag. All stock parts running v-bar.

    What headspeed are you running?

Have you made sure the rudder mechanics are silky smooth with no hint of roughness? Just one tiny drop of threadlock can cause all kinds of problems. With my kit the links from the slider to the blade grips were not sized properly as the brass bushes were not a free fit.

are you running a high enough headspeed for the tail to hold?

Andy is right, disconnect the rudder control rod ball link from the tail and manually slide the the slider by the ball to check for binding/tightness

if you put loctite on the screws it tends to get in the brass collets.

Thanks for the reply. Not sure what my head speed is as have no way of measuring it. I have the standard Align ESC RCE-B7 70G. One point I have my throttle curve set at Mid 58.5%, 4th position at 69% and high at 90%. The tail wagger normally starts at about 65% or when I give a rudder input.

Thanks. the slider is very free and have put grease on all parts.

              Hey.

Are you using satellite receivers connected to the 3GX? If so you will not be lowering the gyro gain as setup like this gyro gain defaults to AUX2 (channel 7) which the DX6i doesn't have.

However if you are using a seperate receiver to control gyro gain via the gear channel, you might need to lower your rudder lock gain slider within the pc software. As long as your tail slider and pushrod move freely a tail wag which cannot be dialled out using the gyro gain normally comes back to the rudder lock gain being to high.

Another option, you're not using the Align ESC in govenor mode are you? Of you are this can cause tail problems and is best turned off and just use throttle curves.

What 3GX settings are you using to?

                Hey.

Just seen you're throttle curve figures, ideally you need to get to 80%+ throttle very quickly (by quarter stick) and maintain that while in normal mode. ESC's do not take too kindly to being run for extended periods of time below 80% power as they heat up very quickly burning off the unused power which can lead to premature failure.

Many thanks will look at my PC rudder lock gain and try different settings. No I am not using governor mode, RED led light is on, not green, on the 3gx.(Am right in assuming this is correct?) In this mode am I correct in saying the DX6i gyro gain has no affect and the only way you can change the rudder gain is via the PC. At the moment I am using just one satellite receiver but will get another soon.
I have downloaded the 3GX setting from my PC for trex 500/ beginner.

Thanks for that info I will up my throttle curve and see if that helps.

I have ordered one of these revised hubs. They have added shims to sit between the bearing and thrust bearing. They reckon that the tail wag issues on some have been due to there being no shim.

Think your going to struggle using satellite the DX6 as coolice mention doesn't have channel 7 so your best bet is to use a receiver so you can use you normal gain channel doing it via pc you may never get it right.
My throttle settings are: esc in gov mode 3 beeps' thr curve norm 0,80,80,80,80 idle up 85,85,85,85,85 & tail is solid
