It's what RC modelling used to be all about 25 years ago when RC helis were in their infancy and nothing was really available off-the-shelf like it is today, or if it was then it was beyond the budget of the common man.

I was 12 and i had a Tamiya Hornet and a dog called Vicki she was a guard dog for our pub.

2 years later i got a plane and a MFA sport 500 heli and thats where it ended until now lol

Trillian, you don't need to change the pinion it works very well on stock.

I'm sure it works but at 16000 rpm and 8.5 to 1 gear ratio you only get something like
1880 rpm headspeed. I would have thought you'd want something like 2200 (or more).
But I guess at 1880 you'd be able to pull a massive pitch range without bogging.

I had some friends that built a very big coil many years ago. It could do 15 foot sparks and it was made to
be portable so the primary coil was more compact than optimum but it was an impressive beast.

On a related topic to the 600 engine mod, one of my winter projects is a Robbe Futura SE
with a Laser 150 fourstroke engine. It should be pretty cool for the novelty factor assuming
the Laser is a reliable enough engine. It definitely looks the biz.
