Removing Align black coating ????

Hello all Todays mission is to take the black Align coating off my new rotor hub pt no H60231T that's the 600EFL super pro hub.

So any ideas on removing it and will it be shiney or will I need to polish it?
Caustic soda has been sugested ?

I have battery acid ???? Don't ask why ??? lol

Is it anodised or painted?

If anodised, caustic soda works well. Just keep an eye on it as it wont take long before it starts to eat the metal.

If its the new style align items I think they are powder coated Rach.
Powder coatings are put on with the application of heated ovens so it might be that a quick applicatioon of an acetalene torch might soften it enough to scrape it off. The way to tell is the powder coated finish will be very shiney with a deep gloss anything thats chromated ie electro plated will be slightly less shiney & not so deep in colour.

Rotorworx do a silver version by the way, cheaper than the align part too iirc - just for future lol.

I don't know about black but I once heated up a blue blade grip to get a bearing out and it turned silver without any rubbing or polishing.

However I would recommend this....

STOP BEING SUCH A TART!! Put the black one on, if people can see what colour your tail hub is you ain't flying hard enough!!!

Put it into a tray of sand then give it a shake for a while lol...

But yes I have heard caustic soda works well, although I'd just leave it at risk of weakening anything.

As above heat should work too.

If you are going to use heat to remove the coating, can I recommend castle creations Phoenix ice HV 160 lite . Just to make sure you can use A DX 8.

A can of pink paint will resolve teh problem for sure...!

I didn't think you were serious Rachel, could you just not paint it silver and then lacquer it rather than mess about with removing it.

I would be surprised if it powder cost and not anodise. With anodise you can do it all over including the bearing bores. Powder cost would need problematic masking.
All the powder coat ive seen is a lot thicker. If it looks thicker in the corners then it's powder coat ... Anodise is totally even thickness.

Removing either is likely to take any close fits eg for bearings, out of tolerance. It's not worth it.

Fly it crash it again and then replace with the right colour bits

or even better get quick uk to anodise it in gold
as every girl likes diamonds and gold
