Trex 600 EFL Pro

Hi All, just maidened my 600 yesterday at the F.O.D and all I can say is HOLY Cow! power on tap and in reserve! totally different beast to my old flybarred 600. The 3GX just worked I didn't have to touch it, set gyro sens at 65 and it flies great. I only ran one set of 12s through it as my receiver pack was on yellow light i.e too low for comfort, I thought I'd charged it but maybe not. I'm running a 2s 1800mah with the Align regulator to power my servo's and 3GX, am I pushing my luck here? what are you guys running and how many flights does it last? I currently have 3 sets of 12s but looking to get one more, many Thanks for your input, Ian.

I get 3 flights usually before i charge the 2s. But... i may be pushing my luck also i guess.

I wouldn't trust the Leds' on an Align reg as far as I could throw them. After your 3 flights put the battery on a reliable charger and see what you've used from the pack. Then decide whether there is another flight in it or not.

Waveydavey, I put it on my Fusion balancer and it said I had 49% capacity with the yellow light on, still wasn't gonna chance it though.

The Align 2 in 1 is rated at 6amps continuous. Depending on what servos your using and especially flybarless then I would consider an alternative. My 600 with BeastX and 610's takes approx 600mah per flight. I never do more than 3 flights out of 2800 packs.

Waveydavey, I'm using Align 610's on cyclic and 650 on tail with the Align 3GX fbl controller, I'm happy to consider an alternative if 6 amps isn't enough, what would you reccommend? Also is your 2800 2 cell? I do have 2200mah 3 cell packs that I could use if this makes any difference?

I'm a massive fan of LiFe packs...

no regulators to worry about, just plug in and go. The align servos cope with 6.6v no problem and it means you have truly solid power delivery direct to your servos and have removed another point of failure.

The Hyperion 2S 2100mah LiFe pack is a perfect fit in the side of the front frame on the 600.

The only things to watch out for with LiFe packs is that they require a different setting on your charger obviously (make sure it supports LiFe), and they hold a really constant voltage until they suddenly run out of juice. That is good of course, but also means that you get no prior warning... the only way to accurately assess them is to do a couple of flights, then charge it back up and see how much you put back in. That allows you to work out your mah burn per flight, and thus how many flights you can safely do before recharging. A good thing is you can leave it fully charged - doesn't harm the pack like it would with lipo.

They really are a brilliant option, I can throughly recommend you give it a go.

You can't use the 3 cell as that would be 11 volts. You need as high a capacity in a 2S you can fit in, or a number of them. It's difficult to say whether or not the Align reg is good enough or not really, some use them with no issue, others like me wouldn't trust them. As Zeeflyboy says the LiFe packs are worth considering for the reasons he posted but if you decide to stick with LiPo and reg then consider having more than one 2S pack in your flightbox.

That's one thing with the lights on the Align I guess it gives you a warning to check what your packs are running at. I have a 450, and fly this at home, rarely take it to the filed so I have a few 2100 mah 3 cell lipo's I could use on the Align regulator and run out of 12s packs well before running out of 3 cells. I hear what your saying with the life packs but I think I'm gonna hold off buying any for now as I have a very good alternative. As for the charger I'm using a turnigy Accucell6, the plan was to upgrade charger when the heli is built but the pl6 isn't in stock yet and there are some impending 'offers' and 'sales' threatening to appear very soon. Also looking into building a 24v psu from server psu's, reading many threads on this atm.

Jeez mate,how long are you flying for per flight...my fusion uses 130-160 mah per 5 minute flight.

I don't think you can put 11v from the 3S into the Align reg, it only takes 7.2 which is 2S (as far as I am aware)
